Rong Su stared at the projection with a dumbfounded expression. Just when he wanted to retort angrily, Qiu Ling smiled and the connection was cut. Rong Su was left to glare at the transmission stone itself.
Leng Jin Yu hurriedly kept the stone, his expression a bit embarrassed. Please excuse him. He had ascended and officially become part of the god race so making trouble in their realm didn't seem right but ... he was also married to a dragon who even happened to be the former dragon king and while his relationship with the current dragon king could only be described as 'complicated', it was still much closer than whatever relationship he had with the people of the Nine Heavens. Of course, he'd lend a helping hand when such a prime opportunity presented itself.
Qiang Yan who had had more contact with Leng Jin Yu, stared at him in a daze. Was this still the same person? No, wait. Come to think of it, he had always been a bit sly. Otherwise, would he have managed to take the chance when Jing He's trial first went off-trail and he found out to get a foot in the door of the Palace of War? Clearly, this person wasn't as easy to deal with as he seemed.
This idea just now ... he was very much in favor but as soon as his brother-in-law recovered, he would likely have to listen to quite the tirade. Thinking of this, he truly didn't know whether he should congratulate him or feel sorry for him.
Either way, in the end, he decided not to draw further attention to it and just cleared his throat. "Well, I suppose we should prepare for the arrival of the dragon king then?" He raised his brows and looked at An Bai. "Adviser An Bai, would it be preferable to have him stay with you and the half-bloods or ..." He gave him a questioning look, not sure what was appropriate at this time.
An Bai thought for a moment. Nobody in the Nine Heavens would dare to do something to their king and even if they tried, he had full confidence in their king's combat ability. It would probably need half the Palace of War to bring him down. If such a large disturbance truly occurred, how could they not know? So, clearly, it wasn't necessary for them to live together. Instead, there was another matter that should be taken into consideration.
He glanced at the Heavenly Emperor before turning back to the God of War. "It seems our king isn't trusted too much. If he were to live with us, wouldn't he be accused of sneaking out? In this case, isn't it better to have him live elsewhere so the gods can put their minds at ease?"
Qiang Yan's lips twitched. He had personally never had an issue with An Bai so suddenly being on the receiving end of his scrutiny and blame felt odd. He knew what he meant though. His brother-in-law was too troublesome. If he was given the slightest chance, he would indeed try to find an opportunity to make Qiu Ling seem untrustworthy. "In that case ... I suppose there is only one place he can stay."
He smiled wryly and then glanced at his sister, silently begging for help while he turned to his brother-in-law. "Your Majesty, since the situation is already like this, I believe Longjun should be received as a guest in your palace. It'll be convenient for you to ... spend more time together and there will be enough guards to secure the safety of both of you."
His lips twitched as he forced himself to say these things. Obviously, the true meaning was 'If you want to keep an eye on him, this is the best way since both you and your personal guards will be there' but he still had to find such dignified-sounding reasons. Ah, it really wasn't easy being the God of War.
Rong Su wanted to retort that he definitely wouldn't live in the same palace as that good-for-nothing dragon king but somebody else was faster.
"The God of War has a point. His Highness has been kidnapped. Well, in the eyes of the common people, he has been kidnapped. Since this matter has already spread, it only makes sense to pay more attention to safety. The dragons have always been a great reassurance in the war against the demons so having Longjun stay with our Heavenly Emperor would be a good look.
"In fact ..." Li Yin turned to An Bai, his expression subtle. "Adviser An Bai, would it be possible to add a few more guards? They can guard your own king and also double as reassurance for the rest of the Heavenly Family. With our crown prince's state currently being 'unknown', we naturally need to ensure the Heavenly Emperor's safety at all costs."
An Bai wasn't too familiar with the God of Justice but his words seemed to play into what Leng Jin Yu had suggested so he thought it best to play along. "Of course. I will contact Adviser Fu Heng and arrange for some suitable guards to be sent over. Since His Majesty is going to the dragon realm to make arrangements first, they will probably arrive together."
Li Yin inclined his head and didn't speak any further. He did, however, give the Heavenly Empress a glance.
Bai Fen blinked her eyes and her mind churned. Finally, her lips curled up. "That's a splendid idea. In fact, since my potential son-in-law and my husband will both be there, I should also move into the palace for the time being. Brother, in the interest of everyone's safety, why don't you follow along? In fact, you can call your son and his fiancee over as well. Wouldn't it be nice for the whole family to be together?"
Qiang Yan gave a painful smile and nodded. Nice, my ass! He'd be happy to wash his hands off this whole matter. There was no way the Heavenly Emperor's palace would be peaceful in the upcoming days if his brother-in-law and Qiu Ling both lived in the same place. Unfortunately, it seemed as if there was no way to get around this.
