Jing He's eyes flew open and he couldn't help but turn his head, his heart suddenly thumping in fear. He was willing to have witnesses to fulfill the requirements of the dragons' wedding ceremony but that was still under the assumption that the person or people in question would be carefully chosen by Qiu Ling. He definitely didn't want to be seen by just anyone in such a state!
He hastily pulled Qiu Ling's shoulder, looking at him in desperation. What should they do now? The steps were coming from outside the main entrance but the doors inside were all open and as soon as the person stepped around the painted screen, they would be able to see the bed. The curtain was only so thick, allowing the other side to at least see the silhouette of two people behind it. At that time, wouldn't they know what was happening?
"Don't worry. Isn't this what we wanted to do? To make it official and ensure that nobody can tear us apart any longer? Just ignore it. Your thoughts should only be with me."
"But ..." Jing He once again glanced in the direction of the main entrance, his worry turning into panic.
He was not a very social person. Apart from his family, he only had regular contact with the guards assigned to him and those two should have already been in their usual position when he woke up earlier so it couldn't be them. Wasn't this to say that the one coming in was one of his family members?
His face which had been flushed earlier suddenly turned pale and his fingers couldn't help but curl more tightly into the fabric of Qiu Ling's robe. Even though he understood that this was what he had agreed to, he certainly hadn't imagined it like this. This disparity between his idea of what would happen and the actual reality of it made him suddenly doubt himself.
Had he been wrong to allow this to happen? Should he have stopped Qiu Ling as soon as he made the suggestion, insisting on following his own people's customs as well as that of the dragons? But then, who knew if they could ever get married? And he didn't want to be without this man. He wanted to be with Qiu Ling. He wanted to ensure that their relationship couldn't be prevented and that they couldn't be kept apart. Was that really wrong?
His heart squeezed painfully. Not knowing what to do, he simply embraced Qiu Ling tightly, hoping to find some semblance of security from him. He wanted to believe that everything would be good, that this wouldn't have any bad repercussions, or at least none that he couldn't deal with. He wanted for them to be together forever and never be apart again with as few regrets as possible. He just felt that it wouldn't be possible.
As if to answer his fears, the steps became louder and their tone changed. Obviously, the person had now stepped into the palace. They walked around the screen and had a candid view of the bedroom and the closed curtain of the bed.
Jing He pressed his eyes shut, clinging to Qiu Ling while he also moved to close his robe. He didn't want to be seen like this by anyone, much less his family. By now, it was impossible not to be caught with Qiu Ling but ... at the very least, he should try to look a little more decent.
He tried to pull his inner robe back into place but when he reached down, he realized that it had been taken off completely and he didn't know where it went. He opened his eyes in fright and looked for his outer robe instead, hoping to pull on anything at all that would make him seem dressed. To his distress, while the outer robe could be found, half of it had been pushed off the bed and only one sleeve was now left pressed beneath their bodies.
Jing He gasped. With this, it was impossible to pull the robe back and put it on. That would only draw more attention to it. But then, it didn't matter any longer, did it? With his outer robe sprawled on the ground, the bed curtain drawn, and two figures visible behind it, there was no doubt about what had happened just now.
Jing He covered half his face with his hand, hoping to vanish into thin air. Unfortunately, he couldn't do so and there was nowhere to hide either. He could only turn away, not wanting to show his face in such a situation.
Qiu Ling hugged him tightly as he did, wrapping him in his arms and brushing through his hair as if all of this was natural and there was no shame in being discovered. He didn't seem embarrassed at all.
When Jing He glanced up, his expression was as usual and there was even a faint smile on his lips. He really didn't seem to see an issue with both of them being naked at this time. But then, the dragons had other sensibilities than the gods and were much more focused on physical things. To be seen naked, Qiu Ling probably wouldn't mind it under any circumstances. Considering that to him, this was a sacred ceremony rather than a taboo being broken, he truly had no need to feel down.
Jing He didn't know how to feel but before he could make sense of these conflicting thoughts, the curtain of the bed was pulled aside. The fabric brushed over his skin and the cold air blowing in from outside made him tremble at once.
He arched closer to Qiu Ling, their naked skin touching, submitting the heat from his lover's body to him. At the same time, this view also fired up the hot temper of the person who had caught them red-handed.
