An hour passed by before Jing He's tears slowly ran dry. He didn't mean to and even felt somewhat embarrassed for crying in front of the supreme sovereign but he couldn't help it. Seeing how his whole life seemed to crumble around him, what else could he do but cry?

Between a god and a dragon, things were already so difficult. Could there ever be a chance for him and Qiu Ling if his lover wasn't even a full-blooded dragon? He seriously doubted it. A half-blood ... he also knew how their situation looked. In fact, Qiu Ling had just recently brought it up, making him think about it more.

No matter how one looked at it, it wasn't an easy life. That was especially true for somebody whose blood came in part from the demons. Their acceptance was low and most kept their parentage to themselves. Hadn't Qiu Ling done the same? Although, when he brought the matter up recently, most likely, he had wanted to tell him.

At that time, he hadn't understood. Now, in hindsight, it was crystal clear. Qiu Ling hadn't wanted to take this secret into their life as a married couple. Even though he loved him, even though they had promised to marry each other, he had felt obligated to tell him the truth before the ceremony had been held. Most likely, he wanted him to have a choice and decide whether he could truly live with this.

As Jing He slowly calmed down, his thoughts unwittingly focused on this part. Did Qiu Ling believe that he would reject him for that part of his blood? Did he doubt his feelings to this degree? Was that why he hadn't been here when he woke up?

He hugged An Xin more tightly as those thoughts assaulted his mind. He didn't know what to do. Of course, he was shocked. He never would have expected that Qiu Ling of all people who had sat on the dragon realm's throne for thousands of years actually wasn't a full-blooded dragon at all. But obviously, he had nothing against the half-bloods.

He couldn't understand their plight, yes, but he had fallen in love with somebody he knew as a dragon. Clearly, any children they would have would be half-bloods and he had never wasted half a thought on that being an issue. To him, it wasn't. Since he loved this man, he would naturally accept all of him.

To be honest, wasn't there also a type of precedent? Back then, when Xing was one of the children of the Heavenly Emperor and married Tian, everyone had believed the latter to be a god. In truth, Tian was more than that. Still, who would dare to look at a child between a god and the supreme sovereign and scoff at them for their heritage?

In the same vein, any child between him and Qiu Ling would be heir to the throne of the Nine Heavens. And even though they couldn't inherit the throne of the dragon realm in the same way, learning from the person who had reigned over the realm for so long would have given them a solid basis allowing them to fight for it as well. Naturally, reigning both realms was out of the question and because of the curse on his own family, they could never have more than one child, so this wasn't even a question.

Anyway, he believed that their child would have been special and shouldn't have had to face any of the misfortune that others among the half-bloods had to deal with. No, they would have only been stuck with the life that was forced upon those of the Heavenly Family's bloodline. So really, some demon blood in their veins would hardly change a thing. Not to mention that this would already be a half-blood of the second generation and his own blood made it unlikely for their child to ever develop the demon's dark energy and make this part of their identity obvious to everyone.

Really, Qiu Ling had no need to worry. Rather than that, it seemed to be him who should feel panic. Why wasn't his lover here? Why had there instead been another person at his side when he opened his eyes? And why was that person Tian of all people?

Jing He belatedly remembered that even though he personally adored the story of Xing and Tian and had always based his fantasies of a future partner on it, Tian's relationship with his family could only be described as 'complicated' at best. While he might have helped him during his trial and might have helped Qiu Ling after his mortal reincarnation died ... there was no way to say how he would react after seeing the person himself.

Jing He patted An Xin's head, trying to calm himself down as he slowly got to his feet. He didn't dare to look at the person standing at the door to his garden and instead lowered his gaze to the ground. Thinking of his behavior since waking up, he felt some dread creep up inside. It wasn't like he could change it though so he could only go forward and hope for the best.

Hesitating for a moment, he finally called out. "Tian. I ... I apologize for my unseemly behavior just now. I remembered something from my trial that shook me greatly and did not have a good grasp on my emotions. I've made a fool of myself."

Tian finally turned back around, his expression still the same as before. He didn't react directly to Jing He's words either as if the last hour hadn't happened at all. "You should have remembered all of it but I suppose what shook you was nothing other than something related to your lover. What do you think of it?"

Jing He stared at the ground in a daze. It wasn't surprising for Tian to know everything that was going on but ... being so casually referred to as lovers by the supreme sovereign ... that was another kind of shock.
