While somebody was silently cursing Tian in his heart, another person quietly scaled the mountain leading to the realm where Tian lived. The foot of the Heaven Mountain was actually easy to pass as a dragon could still fly. Soon enough though, Qiu Ling had reached the part where the energy surrounding it was too heavy. He landed with a complicated expression and then simply walked upward step by step.
He had scaled this mountain once and even at a time when he had been completely out of his mind. Thus, he really didn't doubt that he had the ability. Still, he couldn't remember how he had done it or what he had experienced on the way so the actual process made him worried.
When your mind hardly even worked, you were willing to take any kind of risk. You wouldn't even think twice about taking the next step so some things would inevitably be easier. After all, with some hesitation, you might fall short somewhere. Of course, he also wouldn't hesitate when he knew that he could only find and save Jing He if he made it to the top of this mountain. But he might be anxious because of this which could cause other issues. Ah, in short, he was worried that he wouldn't live up to his own expectations and that his beloved would suffer for it.
Qiu Ling furrowed his brows and took a deep breath, marching on. He couldn't know what lay ahead so he could only continue trying. Anyway, he had done it once so he could do it a second time. It couldn't be that hard. Anyway, hadn't Xin Lan come up here several times in the past? Since this was the case, it shouldn't be that much of a problem.
Soon, Qiu Ling passed the halfway mark of the mountain. The strain on his body was becoming heavier though. Yes, compared to the immortal realms where he had grown up, the High Heavens were clearly much higher in spiritual energy. In fact, even if you compared the immortal realms to the mortal realms, the difference might not be this big. It made scaling this mountain really difficult.
Gritting his teeth, he tried to continue forward but with each step, it became more and more difficult. Finally, he had to stop and take a few deep breaths. Leaning forward, he closed his eyes for a moment, thinking of Jing He.
His beloved had always been a bit timid. Right now, he might be alone somewhere, realizing he had turned into a fallen god and was in an unfamiliar environment. If this was the case ... wouldn't he be scared? As his lover, his future husband even, could he accept that? Of course not!
Qiu Ling hesitated for a moment but then opened his eyes again and changed his form. He was still afraid of doing this but he also realized he likely wouldn't make it all the way to the top without. Since this was about Jing He, he didn't dare to risk failure or even risk being too slow. Anyway, he had been out cold for two days. Jing He had likely been unconscious as well but if he woke up while all alone ... No, he couldn't let that happen!
Qiu Ling really didn't doubt that Jing He would be scared. Yes, he would be scared and insecure. During the years they had spent getting to know each other, they had seldom had deeper talks but at the very least, they had also brought up some issues along the way and some signs had naturally been exposed.
Because of this, he was very much aware of how draining Jing He's position felt to him. He always thought he needed to be perfect but simultaneously feared that he couldn't measure up to this standard he had set. It was exhausting to live like that even under normal circumstances and now, Jing He had turned into an existence that was abhorred not just by the trueborn gods but by all immortal races. With the way his mind worked, how could he easily adjust to this new reality?
No, when Jing He woke up and found out that he had fallen, he might feel like his world collapsed once again. He wouldn't know what to do or where to go. He'd feel devastated, lonely, terrified even. So at that time, he definitely couldn't let him be alone.
He had to be there, staying at his side and patiently reassuring him. He had to make it clear to him that he would be there every step of the way and that he loved him no matter whether he was a trueborn god, a human, an ascended deity, or a fallen god. Only when he managed to get Jing He to believe this was there a chance of a future together.
Thinking of this, Qiu Ling gulped, trying to speed up again. Yes, if he wasn't in time or if he didn't find the right words or didn't take the right actions, they might not have a future together. Jing He might run away and then stay missing for the rest of his life. Or maybe even if he could find him, the trust couldn't be reestablished.
He suddenly thought of Tian and Xing and the story Jing He had told him a long time ago: When Xing fell, Tian searched for him desperately but couldn't find him for a long time. Later ... it wasn't clear what happened. Either he hadn't found him or he did but nobody knew what followed after. This part might have been lost to time or maybe nobody but the two of them had ever been aware.
Anyway, if your partner fell, there was no saying what the result would look like. Since this was the case, he had to be prepared for everything and he had to do everything he could to ensure that their story wouldn't end here. He still wanted to have that elaborate wedding ceremony in the Nine Heavens after all, the follow-up in the dragon realm, the years upon years of marital bliss, and a child whenever Jing He was ready. He wanted to build a life together and he wouldn't give up on that dream before it was completely impossible. Otherwise, there really wasn't much use in continuing this life at all.
