Chapter 51: Our downfall

Melody woke up feeling so tired. She probably slept a lot. She suddenly got up and looked at her wall-clock in panic. It's already 8 a.m!!!

Melody: School starts now!!! Why didn't the alarm ring. Where the hell is my phone??

   She didn't find it on her bedside table and she had no time to look for it. She quickly got up and rushed her way to the bathroom. Ten minutes later, she was rushing her way downstairs. She grabbed her skateboard on her way out and skated her way to school. She was there by 8:25. The librarian was so nice so he let her in but she was still scolded by her physics teacher, miss Mandelaive, for being late. She took her seat at the last table in the lab and quietly listened to the rest of the lesson.

   A while later, the bell finally rang. She took a deep breath and calmed down. Rose greeted her.

Rose: Hello there, sleepy head. You overslept, right.

Melody: I think I lost my phone so there wasn't an alarm to wake me up. I'm still confused. How can I just lose it? I am sure it was charging on my bedside table before I slept.

Juleka was listening so she calmed her down.

Juleka: It might have slipped under the bed.

Melody: You're right. I'll go home after school and search for it. It must be laying around somewhere.

   Outside the laboratory, Adrien walked with Marinette to their next class. He wasn't on earth actually but in his mind where he was the bad guy and he felt so bad and he can't forget the disappointment in Melody's eyes. He will take it as his life's purpose to be a better person than the one in her story. He can't disappoint her again.

Marinette: Adrien! Adrien!

He could suddenly hear Mari calling his name. She probably have been calling for a while now.

Adrien: Yes!

Marinette: What's wrong, kitty? You've been spacing out thw entire morning.

Adrien: It's not a big deal. I just didn't sleep well last night.

Marinette: You sure? I mean come on Adrien. I am not someone you'll keep secrets from because you don't want to worry me.

She blocked his way and crossed her arms. He stared at her and panicked. She stared back with questioning eyes. He had nowhere to run or hide. He sighed and answered her.

Adrien: I have been getting bad dreams lately. Like they were memories rather than nightmares so I haven't been sleeping so well, that's it.

He didn't lie, he just didn't say the whole truth. He didn't want to hide things from her but he wasn't ready to face her or himself with what he has discovered. And he could definitely never ever look Luka in the eyes again.

Marinette let it slip but she knew this wasn't the whole truth because she could see through him. She knows he's hiding something but she won't pressure him. He will be okay eventually and when he's ready, he'll talk to her. She trusted him with that.

Later on in the art class, Alix offered to redesign Melody's skateboard. Melody was so glad. They enjoyed the process and the final product was legendary. It turned from plain red to something so cool with black coating and words written randomly in a street style. They made a deal to make a race on Friday after school and find out who wins. A skateboard or roller-skaters.
