Chapter 12: Teaming Up

You wake up in a bed, it was so soft, and your body was sinking into the mattress. You turned your head, you were still in your lady's room, but she was nowhere to be seen, nor were her daughters. You throw off the thick blanket and head to the bathroom. Looking into the mirror you saw yourself, there were dark circles under your eyes, your curly hair was tangled, you looked like you hadn't slept in days. You open the door and walk out the bedroom, making your way to your room where you find your comb and begin untangling your thick hair.

When that was done you let it loose, you had been putting your hair in a ponytail for the last few weeks, it was time to let it loose for once. You looked at your face, trying to remember what happened. The memories came flooding back when you saw the scratch on your face, you remember Mother Miranda grabbing your face, her scratching it, your lady pulling you away. You remember being scared and attacking her then it was black, you remember being a prisoner in your own mind before someone brought you back.

It was Alcina, you attacked her, her voice helped you come out of your mind. But you scratched her, you looked at your hand, your nails were normal, you bang a fist on the counter. You hated what you are, you hated being trapped in your own mind like a prisoner, at the mercy of the two wolves, one wanted to kill everything, the other wanted only to live peacefully, you were stuck in the middle.

You leave your room, you didn't know where you were going, you just wanted out. Eventually you make your way to the library and walk in. no one was there perfect, you grab a book and sit in one of the chairs near the fireplace. You had already read the book Dani had given you and while reading another one, this one was about a man who had powers only women had. There were 16 books and you were only on the third one.

After a while, you didn't know how long you left the library and made your way to the front entrance of the castle. You wanted to go out and clear your head. You slide on some boots and put on a thick jacket before leaving the castle. You made sure to tell one of the maids that you were going out and to tell any of the Mistresses if any of them asked where you had gone.

You make your way into the village, the snow crunching softly under your boots. After a while you hear a bell chime in the wind and make your way to the sound until you find the Duke, and Ethan Winters. You duck behind a building and listen in on their conversation.

"Hello Ethan, what can I get you this time?" you heard the Duke say

"Just some ammo and a lot of chem fluid, like your entire stock." you heard Ethan sigh

"That'll be 87,500 lei." the Duke said

"Thanks." Ethan mutters before taking his supplies and walking away

When he was far enough you walked up to the Duke.

"Ahh, why hello Y/N, how have you been?"

"I'm fine, just a little lost, I was hoping you had some information that could help me."

"But of course Y/N, what are you looking for?"

"Any information about spirits, specifically wolves."

"I'll see what I have."

He turns around and you hear rustling for a moment before he faces you again.

"Here you are Y/N."

He hands you a book, you look at it, there was no title, it looked like a research journal.

"Thank you." you say before fishing out some lei

"It's on the house." you hear the Duke say

You nod and put the book in the inside pocket of your jacket before going in the same direction Ethan went. It wasn't hard to track him, he had a distinct smell of blood, sweat, and...mold? When you see him you gather up your courage before approting him. He turned around and pointed a gut straight at you, you stood there unfazed, but ready to move at a moment's notice.
