Chapter 24: Step by Step, Day by Day

Week 1

You wake up in your bed, your mistress is sleeping on the couch. Although you insisted on taking the couch, she wanted you to feel more comfortable. You give a deep sigh, taking in your love's scent that covered the bed. You still hadn't returned to your human form, but your love didn't seem to mind, she had been very patient with you, helping to heal the emotional wound. You get up and stretch, earning a small whining yawn from you. You walk up to your love who was still sleeping and nipped at her nightgown, tugging at it lightly. She groaned and sat up, rubbing the sleep from her eyes. When she looked at you, she gave you a loving smile that warms your heart.

"Good morning draga mea." she purrs

You just wag your tail and place your head on her lap, speaking took a lot out of you. She gently rubbed your ears and patted your neck, you were getting more comfortable with her touching you and you were happy with the progress you had made, she was too.

"Let's get you something to eat, how does that sound darling?" she asked

You just wag your tail and give a slight whine in response. She smiles at you and you both go into the dining room to eat. Your love sits in her chair and you sit next to her, leaning on her leg for support. Seconds later you hear the familiar buzzing of flies and soon see the three daughters in their seats. They all beamed when they saw you, you felt kinda bad, they hadn't seen you since yesterday, and only for a brief moment.

"Good morning Y/N" they all said in unison

You wag your tail and give a happy growl in response. Soon the other maids brought out breakfast, none of the maids looked at you, in fear of your lady killing them, but you could smell their emotions, the smells of fear, anger, sadness, confusion, it nearly overpowered the smell of the food. You lean closer to your love, your head resting a bit above her ribs, she stroked your fur and you gave a content sigh, happy at her touch. That's when you smell someone a bit closer to you, you look next to you to see Mary with a plate of food for you, mostly containing many different types of meats. You could smell that she was afraid, but not at you, the other maids must have voted for her to give you your plate, knowing full well that one wrong move could land her in the dungeon. She's standing at a far distance and looks at you, you weren't scared or mad at her, she wasn't the one who hurt or helped hurt you.

You remove yourself from your mistress and she looks at you, a puzzled but stern look on her face. You slowly make your way to Mary and she looks at you, tears threatening to leave her eyes. Your nails clicked on the marble ground, the only sound in the defining silence. You look at Mary and she just stands there, plate in hand, you place your head on her shoulder and slowly hug her, she didn't hurt you, she was still your friend. Mary sets the plate on a nearby tray and places her arms around you and gives a sigh.

"I'm not mad." you whisper in her ear, "You didn't hurt me."

She hugged you tightly and you felt her nod her head. You release her and give a happy growl and she smiles at you before placing your food on the ground next to your mistress, you wag your tail, happy that you could still hug your friend without fear.

Week 2

You had gotten comfortable with leaving the room without your mistress, but you still had to have someone accompany you everywhere, you couldn't be by yourself for too long. If your love wasn't with you, one of her daughters where, if none of them were with you, then Mary was, she was the only maid your love and her daughters trusted, only because you did.
