Y/n's P.O.V
MK and Mei started running around, checking the area out."Guys, wait! We can't just go running around." I tried to stop them, but they just kept exploring the place.
"They're gonna get into trouble." I heard Macaque in my head.
"I know." I grumbled, following MK.
"Whoa, I'm in the past! Which means..." MK pulled out a bunch of junk from his pocket, slamming it down on the counter of a market stand. "One ancient souvenir, please."
The stand owner inspected the junk. "These aren't chickens. And what are these?" He pointed at our clothes. "Demonic accessories!" He shouted.
Guards started to come our way.
I laughed nervously. "Please excuse my stupid brother and friend."
I grabbed MK and Mei's hands, escaping into an alley.
Azure appeared in the alley. "You made it in safely! Great! Mei! MK! Y/n, welcome to 7th-century Chang'an. I trust you've experienced astral projection before?"
"Nope." I answered.
"Yep." MK replied.
"No. Is this what dying feels like?" Mei asks.
"Hey!" I slapped her upside her head. "Never ask someone what's dying like when there is someone who actually knows what dying is like around."
"Sorry." Mei rubbed her head.
"A little astral projection never hurt anyone. Listen, I don't have much time. Remember how I told you the scroll has a protective curse?" Azure brings up the curse.
"And that it'll try to find and destroy us. Uh-huh, yeah. Wasn't really gonna forget that part." MK nodded in acknowledgment.
"Good. Try not to draw too much attention to yourself. The curse will be drawn to any imperfections it detects within its stories. So, for starters, we need to do something about those." Azure gestured to our clothes, which clearly did not help us blend in here.
"Please don't be what I think it is." I mentally cried.
"New outfits?" Mei squealed.
"Oh no, Macaque, help me." I whispered the last part.
"Nope, you're on your own on this, kid." I hear Macaque chuckle.
"You betcha. I found some duds your size over in that trash pile." He gestures to a section of the alley. "Finding your friends won't be easy, but-- Oh, come on!" Azure turns around, covering his eyes.
I covered my eyes, realizing what was wrong. "MK! Wait for people to turn around!"
_______________________________________After that little fiasco, the three of us walked throughout the city in our new outfits.
"Alright, find our friends, defeat the curse, and get back to the good old-fashioned story of the week. But where to start?" MK thought aloud.
"You're a big brain boy when it comes to legend stuff. Got any ideas what chapter of Journey to the West we're in?" Mei asked him.
"Please don't ask that, I've already said he only read the Monkey King parts." I groaned.
"Hey! That may be true, but it's fine! Every--Everything will be fine." He stuttered on the last bit.
As we were walking, we overheard some guards talking.
"Did you hear? Emperor's cousin, what's his name?" A guard asks the other guard.
