Chapter 23 Entering The Goron Mines

LINK'S POV

Once we entered the cave there were a few more of the gorons they all curled up in a ball, (Y/N) got behind me and then they were about to charge at us until we heard someone shout,"ENOUGH!" We looked at the back and there was another goron except he looked a bit older than the rest of the gorons.

"Are the young ones such an imposing enemy that you must all gang up on them? I think not, Little brothers" He said as he looked at us. (Y/N) gripped on my shoulder a bit more tighter I can tell she was a bit nervous around them. I whispered to her,"Don't worry, everything is going to be OK" She whispered back saying,"if you say so Link"

(Y/N) let go of my shoulder and then we walked towards their leader. He said,"I am a Goron elder, little humans. I am called Gor Coron."

"Okay then, elder Coron mind telling us what's been happening around here and why have you stopped the villagers from Kakariko from coming up here?" (Y/N) asked. He said,"Because of certain...circumstances, I must lead the Goron tribe in place of Darbus, our tribal patriarch. Tell me, little humans, do you come from the village below?"

"Yes we did" I replied. "You have done well to come this far. You two are strong...for a human. However... The mines beyond here are sacred to my tribe. Outsiders and especially the assassins are not allowed. Unless..." He said.

(Y/N) then said,"(Gulp) unless what?" The elder smiled at us and said,"I could make an exception...but one of you would need to beat me in a contest of power. Are you willing to try that, little humans?" I nodded my head for a yes.

"Link, that's your que" (Y/n) said. I glared at her and said,"Hey! it's your turn! Lazybones!" We both sighed and then we did rock-paper-scissors and (Y/N) had paper and I had rock that meant that I was the one to go into the ring.

READER'S POV

Link puts his iron boots on and then the elder and Link went into the ring and then the match started. When I was watching them I noticed that some of the gorons were watching the match and the others were staring at me and some of them were whispering about me.

"Hey why is there an assassin here, brother?" Another one said,"I don't know but if this human loses then I'll be glad once she's gone" They said.

"Man, they really hate me, I don't blame them I mean we did kill some of the criminals back then but not for fun it was just to protect the people of Hyrule" I thought to myself. Suddenly, I heard someone being pushed out of the ring and it was the elder Link won. The elder said,"Young warrior... You have a strong will...and sharp eyes."

He got back up on his feet and said,"Fine traits... Want to see how well you use them?" We walked over to the entrance of the mine with the elder and he then said,"You two have seen it, I would bet... The mountain, erupting without pause..."

"How could we have not seen it? we nearly go blown to bits and anyway how is it that the mountain continues to erupt like this?" I said. The elder then said,"When the mountain began to rage, all four of us elders and Darbus, our patriarch, went inside to investigate it's anger. We have a treasure that was entrusted to us by the spirits, and we must protect it. Do you understand?"

Link and I both nodded our heads for a yes we both knew what this 'treasure' that the gorons were protecting. The elder then said, "But the moment Darbus reached out and touched the treasure...everything went wrong." 

"what happened?" Link asked. "He collapsed...and before our very eyes transformed him into an unspeakable monster!" Our eyes widen in shock from the elder told us.

"He began to rage through the mines, trailing ruin behind him...and the eruptions grew more frequent and more severe. We used all our strength to seal him deep inside the mountain... It...rieved us to do this to our patriarch...but we had no other course of action."

"I see now it all makes sense, that's why you kept the villagers well away from here, you were protecting them from Darbus and the treasure" I said. The elder then said,"Yes, we did not want them to learn about this power because it might bring harm to them if the treasure can do this to Darbus and there's a possibility this can happen to the humans as well"

I said to the elder,"As a matter of fact, Link and I have already seen what this power can do the same thing happened back at Faron woods in the forest temple" The elder then said,"I see then if you two know how to help Darbus then I ask this favour of you, Young warrior and young assassin... Go to the aid of Durbus! Make no mistake, the spirits have guided you here."

"I, Gor Coron, need your help... On behalf of my entire clan, I ask you for your aid!" He turned to his guards that were at the entrance at the Goron mines. The elder said to them,"...You two! Let the young warrior and the Young assassin pass."

The two guards moved sideways and then the elder said to us,"The mines are full of traps, all placed to protect the treasure from thieves. And worse than traps... Since the eruptions began, foul creatures of all shapes have settled into every corner of the mines. Getting to the patriarch's location will not be easy. I would prepare your blades."

Link and I were about to enter the mine but then the elder grabbed my shoulder gently and whispered in ear saying,"Young assassin, a bit of a warning, keep an eye out for the bounty hunter assassin I have heard from the little brothers that he is part of a group called the creed if you want to learn more about this find him in castle town and he might be the one to give you the answers about what happened to your fallen brothers and sisters and their secret".

"What kind of secret?" I asked him. He said,"it's their weapon I'm not too sure what it is but they didn't use it during the war against you know who." My eyes widen in shock from what the elder just told me but he is right though I'm still wondering what really happened to the other assassins but in the meantime Link and I have a job to do.
