〰⋅〰⋅〰"No." Logan breathed out, dark eyes filling with fear.
One of Singh's men—Ryan—was holding John B back while the other—Raj—moved forward, his gun pointed at his chest. "So, tell me, John." Singh continued, an almost humorous undertone to his voice. "What does it say?!"
"Tell him. Please." John B stammered out.
Kori whipped to him, frantically inhaling. "Big John! Tell him!"
"Now!" Logan pleaded
Big John didn't move.
"Shit, John. Just tell him!" Ward panicked.
Logan pushed out a breath as he met his sister's resolute gaze. "Sare," He uttered, voice barely even audible to her.
But she'd heard him.
Not hesitating, the two of them ran forward, lunging for either man. Sarah crashed to the ground, hardly even knocking Raj to the side. Logan, on the other hand, had roughly hit Ryan, forcing both of them onto the ground. Rain was everywhere, his entire body soaked with water as he felt his palms dig into the earth, catching his fall. Ryan began hurriedly looking for his gun, but Logan was entirely focused on the fact that Raj was aiming at his sister.
Before he could so much as move, a shot rang through the air. He flinched as Sarah yelped, attention rapidly zeroing in on his father. More importantly, though, on the gun he held in his hands. He'd shot him. He'd saved Sarah.
Raj crumpled to the ground, time suddenly at a standstill. Logan flew onto his knees, fingertips sliding around in the mud. He had to find it. He had to find—
The side of his right palm hit into something hard. It was the handle of the gun. In mere seconds, the firearm was in his grasp and he was stumbling onto his feet. Shots rang out from all around him as his eyes searched for Kori. When he caught sight of her, she was shoving Ryan backwards and onto the ground, anxiously locking onto his gaze.
Relief seemed to pour into her expression as she grabbed his arm and pulled him behind one of the stone columns— Sarah, Big John, and John B meeting her on the other side. Her blonde hair whipped to the side, soaked strands hitting into her cheek as her back slammed into the stone. She brought a hand up, chest heavily rising and falling as she brushed an inordinate amount of water off of her forehead.
More shots rang out, Kori flinching with each of them. The sound was deafening, even against the steady downpour drenching them. Big John continuously poked his head out, raising his gun to fire off a shot, but it was no use. Singh and Ryan hadn't been hit, bullet after bullet whizzing through the air.
"Sarah! Logan!" Ward shouted— eyes solely set on his children from where he hid a column down. "Come this way! Come with me!"
"No! We're not coming with you!" Sarah responded.
"I'm your father! I saved your life, Sarah!" He pointed out, altogether forgetting about the chaos still ensuing behind them. "Now come with me—both of you—before you get killed!"
"No!" Logan objected, head shaking at him. "I told you we're done."
"Damn it, Logan, we don't have time for this! Now come on!" He pleaded, a semblance of manipulation beginning to enter into his gaze. "Do you really want your sister to get shot?"
Logan closed his eyes, nothing but anger shooting through his veins. Where had he heard that before? Where in the hell had he possibly heard something like that just a few months ago? Oh, right. It was back when his father had made him believe not testifying against John B would make his brother going to jail be his fault.
