〰⋅〰⋅〰John B quickly closed the door to the room they had stepped into before joining everyone near the center. That had been a close one. If he and Logan hadn't stepped in when they had, who knows what either of the Maybank's would've said. Or done. Predicting that was pretty much like predicting the future though– impossible.
"All I heard is 50k." Kori voiced, immediately causing everyone's faces to contort.
"Okay, what?" Sarah responded, gaze shifting to her. "Did you not hear anything else he said?"
"Like about how he thinks he's haunted." Logan clarified.
The blonde simply shrugged her shoulders. "Who cares? It's a solution to our property tax problem."
"Kori, do you really want to listen to the guy who should be in a white padded room?" John B questioned, brow raising at her. "I mean, visitations? Curses?"
"He's a madman." Cleo echoed.
"Well, obviously he's batshit," Sarah interjected, gesturing to the other room. "But he's in there crying about his daughter. Like, he needs help."
"He needs therapy, Sarah, not a necklace." Kiara retorted.
"Guys, we don't even know if anything he's saying is even true." Pope pointed out.
Kiara shook her head. "We cannot ignore the fact that there is a ghost and a curse. Y'all aren't getting a weird-ass vibe?"
Logan raised his finger up in the air as his mouth turned down. "No, I am. There's one hundred percent a weird-ass vibe here."
"Okay, guys." Cleo piped up, bringing their focus to her. "Let's just say we take this job. Is it even possible?"
"Yes." Kori and JJ said in unison.
The brunette glared at them. "I knew what you two would say. Everybody else?"
"That shipwreck is probably 80 to 100 feet down. The currents are probably ripping." Pope began, mind racing.
"And? It doesn't sound like something we can't handle." Kori said with a shrug. "We're pogues and we are in desperate need of money. Like, yesterday."
"Are we really gonna turn down free money?" JJ countered, not bothering to wait for an answer to his question. "No, that's not like us."
"It's not free!" Kie hissed.
"The worst that can happen is we walk out of here with five Gs in our pocket." He declared, sliding his hat back onto his head. "End of discussion."
Everyone–except Kori–began to object, but it was already decided. JJ sauntered out of the room without another thought and back into the area they'd previously been in. Wes and Groff turned to him as the doors were pushed open.
"Excuse me, sir. We've come to our conclusion, and we'll do it. We'll take the job." JJ announced, walking directly over to Wes. "Now, that initial 5k, is that that right there?" He asked, gaze flickering over to the envelope in Groff's fingertips.
"Welcome aboard." He said with a chuckle as he handed it to him.
Pope swept in at that moment, retrieving the money from him. "You know, I'll take that for safekeeping." He remarked, only causing Groff to chuckle again.
Kori had to roll her eyes, though, as she glanced at her brother. "Can you blame him?"
JJ was about to make a snide remark back when Groff's gaze narrowed at the pair. "Carrie and Luke are your parents, right?"
