Jennifer's P.O.V
Hours before leaving the hospital, the reality of the situation began to sink in.
"Do you have any thoughts on what we should name her?" Ben asked as he looked at her like trying to feel inspired.
"I have a few ideas, but nothing feels quite right." I replied, sitting cross-legged on the bed.
"We don't have to rush. We should take our time." He said.
"I would like her name to mean something special." My eyes moved to the bassinet, where she was peacefully sleeping. "Actually, there's a name that's been resonating in my mind for a while now."
"What is it?" He asked.
"Grace." I said softly. "You know... she just appeared in our lives, like a blessing. Like she was meant to be."
"That's such a beautiful meaning." He nodded.
"Grace Affleck." I grinned.
"Grace it is." He said cheerfully.
Suddenly, she let out a cry that shattered the silence in the room, startling us. We quickly realized it was time for her first diaper change.
"It seems like Grace needs a diaper change." He confidently volunteered to take on the task.
I watched him with amusement. I could barely contain my laughter at the sight of him struggling as she began to squirm and wiggle, making the situation comical as Ben tried his best not to make a mess. But despite the chaos, he managed to change the diaper and redress her.
I had always been in love with him, but after going through the ups and downs, I thought I couldn't love him any more than I already did. Until I saw him being the best daddy, and that made me fall even deeper in love with him.
As we prepared to leave our room, we paused to thank and say goodbye to our doctor. He had been with us throughout the entire process and we were grateful for his experience and guidance, so we wanted to express our appreciation before leaving the hospital. Ben held our daughter in his arms as we approached the doctor, who was standing by the door.
"Thank you so much for everything." I said.
"It was my pleasure." He shook our hands.
He wished us the best and we exchanged one last smile with him before turning to leave.
We had already been warned by our security team that a crowd of paparazzi had gathered outside the hospital entrance. It was a frenzy of shouting and jostling when they spotted us walking out of the elevator, as each of them vied for the perfect shot. We decided to pause and smile politely for the cameras. We knew that it was just the beginning of a lifetime of media attention, but for now, we were just happy to be sharing our joy with the world.
It quickly became overwhelming. Our security man stepped in, helping us get to the waiting car, clearing the way and making sure no one got too close. The paparazzi continued to snap away, but we were shielded from the chaos. Ben carefully placed Grace in the back seat of the car while I climbed beside her. The security man closed the door behind us, making sure that we were safely inside before turning to the paparazzi. He held up his hand, signaling for them to back off, and the photographers reluctantly began to disperse. As the car pulled away, we breathed a sigh of relief.
After pulling up to our driveway, Ben got out of the car and walked around to lift the baby carrier out. I looked down at her, who was sleeping soundly, wrapped in a soft blanket. I couldn't believe she was finally home. Ben placed his hand on my back, and we walked in together.
"Welcome home little Grace." I said in a low voice.
