Ben's P.O.V

As the car glided through the rain-soaked streets of Boston, I couldn't help but feel a bittersweet sense of anticipation. My childhood city had held me captive for a few days longer than I had initially planned, and now, as the clock struck midnight, marking the beginning of Jennifer's birthday, I knew it was time to bid farewell to the familiar streets.

Though fatigue weighed heavily on me, I was determined to make it home before she woke up. The private jet I had arranged awaited me at the airport, ready to whisk me away to California.

In the dimly lit interior of the car, my fingers reached into my pocket to retrieve a small velvet box. As I opened it, I revealed a breathtaking necklace adorned with a brilliant green emerald diamond. The gem sparkled with a vibrant intensity, its color a perfect match to the engagement ring I had proposed with on Christmas morning. I could already imagine Jennifer's look lighting up with joy as she laid eyes upon it.

Outside, the rain fell gently harder now, the droplets against the glass adding a melancholic touch to the moment, and reminding me how much I missed her.

As the car approached the airport, I carefully closed the velvet box, tucking it away in my pocket. The rain outside had intensified to a torrential downpour as I stepped out. The wind howled and whipped against me, causing my umbrella to turn inside out in a futile attempt to shield me from the elements. I hurriedly made my way towards the plane, my coat soaked through and my hair plastered to my forehead.

The cabin crew stood at the entrance, their expressions a mix of concern and sympathy. They greeted me with a warm welcome, taking my coat and offering me a towel to dry off.

Once inside, the door closed behind me, shutting out the cacophony of rain and wind. The noise suddenly disappeared, replaced by the hum of the engines and the gentle whir of the air conditioning. I let out a sigh of relief, feeling the warmth of the cabin wash over me.

Freed of my drenched clothes, I made my way to a plush seat and settled myself comfortably. I closed my eyes for a moment, enjoying the tranquility that enveloped me. But as minutes turned into what felt like hours, restlessness crept in.

I found myself pacing towards the flight deck, my footsteps barely audible against the soft carpeted floor. I knocked lightly on the door, and the pilot himself came out.

"Are we ready to take off?" I asked.

"The storm has intensified beyond our expectations, making it unsafe to take off." He explained. "The tower has denied us permission to depart until the weather conditions improve."

My brows furrowed in frustration as I absorbed the news. I had hoped that the storm would have subsided by the time we were scheduled to leave. But nature had its own plans, and we were at its mercy.

"It's my fiancée's birthday." I pleaded.

"We'll wait a little longer and monitor the storm's progress. We will seize the first opportunity to take off when the conditions are deemed safe." He assured.

I nodded, a mix of disappointment and understanding clouding my features.

Returning to my seat, I settled back into the plush cushions, my mind racing with thoughts of what lay ahead. I glanced out of the window, watching as raindrops cascaded down the glass, distorting the view of the airport runway. I couldn't help but wonder how long we would be grounded, and what impact it would have on Jennifer's feelings if she woke up and I wasn't there.

As the minutes ticked by, the cabin remained shrouded in an expectant silence. All eyes were glued to the windows, hoping for a break in the storm. The sound of rain pitter-patterning against the plane's exterior was a constant reminder of the forces that held us back.

"I'm afraid the storm shows no signs of stopping anytime soon." The pilot's voice carried a tinge of regret, as if he too wished for a different outcome. "It will be impossible for me to perform the flight, sir. I'm sorry."

Jennifer's P.O.V

I slowly opened my eyes, my senses awakening to the gentle rays of sunlight filtering through the slightly parted curtains. As the warmth of the morning light caressed my face, I blinked away the remnants of sleep, gradually becoming aware of the significance of the day. It was my birthday.

A soft smile tugged at the corners of my lips as I turned my gaze towards the empty space beside me, realizing that the only thing I truly desired for my birthday was to wake up next to Ben. My heart sank momentarily, but I understood that it was a work trip, and distance only separated us physically.

With a sigh, I pushed myself up and swung my legs over the edge of the bed. Descending the stairs, the most unexpected surprise caught my attention. It was the sight of Ben walking through the doorway, a bouquet of flowers clasped in his hands. My heart leaped with joy, a surge of emotion coursing through my veins. He was back.

Ben's eyes met mine, a tender smile spreading across his face. And as our gazes locked, there he stood, tall and handsome. Driven by pure elation, I threw myself into his arms, the scent of the flowers greeting me.

"You made it." I whispered. He held me tightly.

"I would've crossed a desert on foot for you." He replied, his voice filled with sincerity.

As we slowly pulled away from each other, Ben reached into his pocket, a smile playing on his lips. From within his pocket, he produced a small velvet box, and my eyes widened.

"Happy birthday." He said.

I gingerly opened the box, my eyes widening in awe. Nestled within the velvet lining was a stunning green emerald diamond necklace that perfectly matched my engagement ring. My breath was taken away.

"Oh, I love you." My voice was filled with emotion.

Our lips met in a fiery embrace. His hands gently cradled my face, his fingers tracing the contours of my cheeks as he pulled me closer. Our bodies pressed together, fitting perfectly. Our breaths mingled, hot and heavy, as our mouths moved in perfect harmony. Soft moans escaped our lips as we made up for every missed kiss during his time away.
