"Are you sure this is a good idea?" The concern was noticeable in my voice. "I thought we were going to your mother's."

I tapped nervously on the armrest of the door after putting my phone back in my purse.

"I thought so too." He replied. "What about your mother? Did she say why they would want to meet like this?"

"She didn't. She just loves going out. I'm sure she talked your mom into changing the plan." I said rolling my eyes. "I can't wait to read the headlines."

"It'll be a discreet dinner." He said placing his hand on my thigh.

"That word isn't in my mom's vocabulary." I replied. "I'm feeling sick."

"Hold on. We're almost there." He said moving his hand on my leg.

It was late, and the restaurant was almost empty when we got there. For a moment, it looked like we were going to enjoy a private dinner, but that was just until we saw the first camera flash. My main concern was the dress I was wearing, since it wasn't meant to be worn outside where it could definitely arouse rumors.

"Take my coat." Ben offered as he reached for it in the back seat.

Wearing his coat under the guise of a slightly chill spring night, our little secret would remain a secret a little longer.

We stepped out of the car, pretending to be more relaxed than we actually were and looking straight like we didn't care about the flashing around us. He wrapped his arm around me as we walked side by side to the entrance, not losing contact with my body for a single second, not even to open the door. Our mothers were already waiting for us, but they didn't realize we had arrived until we walked up to the table they had chosen.

I took off the coat only after making sure we couldn't be seen from outside and before a waiter had the time to come near. Ben pulled out the chair for me to sit and I thanked him before he sat next to me.

"What are we doing here?" Ben asked before they had time to bring up another topic.

"I love this place." My mom said.

"I told you." I said turning to Ben. "I'm starving. Are you hungry?"

"Very." He answered grabbing the menu on the table.

"You have to try the sushi." My mother told him.

"I miss sushi." I said pouting.

"I'm sorry you can't have it. That's why I won't have it either." He placed his hand on my back and moved closer to kiss my cheek.

"Aw." I heard from the other side of the table. A coy smile drew on my face.

"We've been wondering... if our grandchild will be a boy or a girl." Ben's mom said.

"We don't know yet." He replied as we glanced at each other.

"I'm not sure if I wanna know." I said.

"You'll have to think of two names." My mom said switching to a smile.

"How is that going?" Ben's mom asked.

"We haven't even started yet." Ben chuckled.

Shortly after, we were served the dishes we had ordered. By the time we were having dessert, all kinds of questions had come up, and we had no reasons to think that the conversation could get any more intense, but apparently, it could.

"You should get married." My mom said out of the blue.

I froze, letting the spoon I had in my hand fall on the plate. My other hand, the one that was on my lap under the table, moved fast to grab Ben's thigh even before I was aware of this unconscious act.

"That is what you two wanted." His mom added.

"That's what we wanted a decade ago." Ben said in a humorous voice to avoid an awkward outcome.

"All the more reason not to wait any longer." She insisted.

"We're starting over, getting to know the new versions of what we used to be back then." He said grabbing my hand on his leg.

"I thought that was supposed to happen before deciding to have a baby." My mother joked.

Like we had planned it.

"Is that what you two were talking about when we arrived?" He asked.

"Isn't it hot in here?" I said as I moved my hand simulating a fan.

"I know he has to fix a few things before that can happen. Things he should've fixed long ago." Her mom whispered like he wasn't right there with me.

The atmosphere was suddenly soothed with her words. That little touch of humor changed the dynamic of the conversation entirely.

"That's why I love your mom." I said with a big smile while I stroked the back of his head.

I loved teasing him after that, but only until the dinner was over. When we said goodbye to them in front of the building, where the paparazzi no longer seemed to be lurking, we got in the car to a complete silence. We were ready to go, our seatbelts were on, his hand was on the wheel, and no traffic was keeping us from leaving the parking, but we weren't moving.

"I'm still hungry." I broke the silence.

He said nothing at first. He even looked like he was thinking.

"Yeah... me too." He said. "McDonald's drive-thru?"

"I'm already loving it." I giggled.

He moved forward, closing in on the space that separated us, and I placed my hand on the back of his neck. I couldn't help a little laugh on his lips before they met mine. The kiss went on for several seconds.
