Jennifer's P.O.V
Though the days had passed, our teams had worked tirelessly to uncover the source of the fake rumors that tarnished Ben's reputation. As the investigation deepened, a shocking revelation emerged. The one who had talked to the press, the one responsible for resurrecting the ghosts of Ben's past, was none other than Marc.
The betrayal cut deep, leaving us both stunned and bewildered. Silence hung in the air, heavy with disbelief. My mind raced, trying to comprehend. I had never imagined that Marc would stoop so low, driven by jealousy and resentment.
"Marc? How could he?" Anger began to replace the shock in my voice.
"It seems that he couldn't bear to see you happy with someone else, going back to Ben, so he resorted to these despicable tactics." Benny said.
"The news of our engagement." Ben added.
With my hands trembling in anger, I picked up my phone and called Marc. As the phone rang, my mind raced, rehearsing the words I would say to him. I had spent countless night tossing and turning, trying to make sense of his actions, but this time he had gone too far.
"That was low, Marc." I said before he could say anything.
"It was just a joke, I didn't think things would escalate like this." He said after a brief pause.
"A joke?" My grip tightened around the phone as I fought to control my anger. "Is that what you call endangering our children and invading our privacy? A paparazzo crossed the line and entered our house while our kids were inside! Do you even realize the consequences of your actions?"
"I never intended for things to go this far. I'm sorry." He said with a hint of remorse in his voice.
"Sorry isn't enough, Marc. Our children deserve better. They haven't heard from you for almost a year, and it's no wonder they don't ask about you anymore." My voice softened but my frustration remained evident.
"I've made mistakes, but I still care about our children." Regret was evident in his voice. "I want to be there for them. I'll move back to California."
"It's going to take more than empty promises to repair the damage you've caused. Our children need consistency and security, not fleeting moments of regret." My heart ached. "It's time to prioritize their well-being above all else."
As the call ended, my emotions swirled within me. The conversation had taken an unexpected turn, delving into past wounds and unresolved conflicts. I felt a mix of anger and sadness for the pain my children had endured at such an early age due to their father's actions. But my heart also felt heavy with guilt, knowing that I was caught in the middle of the problem Marc had created with Ben.
He had been silently present throughout the entire call, witnessing the emotional rollercoaster. He had seen my frustration, my anger, and my tears. Now, as I hung up the phone, he moved closer to me, his eyes filled with concern and love.
Without a word, he pulled me into his warm embrace, wrapping his arms around me gently. I melted into his touch, finding solace in his comforting presence. The world around us seemed to fade away as we stood there, locked in each other's arms, even Benny's presence.
Ben's touch was tender, his fingers tracing soothing circles on my back. I buried my face in his chest, my tears dampening his shirt. I could feel his heart beating steadily against my cheek, a steady rhythm that calmed the storm raging within me.
"I'm sorry." I whispered, my voice muffled against his chest.
"Jennifer." He tilted my chin up. "You have nothing to be sorry for. This isn't your fault."
His words washed over me like a balm, soothing a troubled mind. I let out a shaky breath, my body relaxing in his embrace.
"Sorry to interrupt, but Ben, what do you want to do with this information?" Benny asked.
"I shouldn't be the one to make that decision." He replied.
"Jen?" Benny looked at me, and so did Ben.
I had fought hard to create a peaceful and stable environment for Emme and Max, shielding them from the bitter aftermath of a failed marriage. I wasn't going to let anything disrupt that.
"Nothing." I took a deep breath. "I appreciate you bringing this to my attention, but I don't want to pursue any legal action against Marc. Emme and Max deserve a peaceful childhood without the burden of our mistakes."
"I understand." Benny nodded, his expression softening. "It's your decision, and I respect that. I'm here to support you, whatever you choose."
I smiled gratefully. I knew I had made the right choice, one that would protect my children. Turning to Ben, I squeezed his hand, and he kissed the top of my head.
