Jennifer's P.O.V

The kids had started their last year of preschool the first week of September, and the house was a calm and peaceful space, yet this specific day, it felt like chaos.

Hearing a knock at the door, I knew it was Leah. She knew she could come in, so she did. She found me sitting on the couch, crying.

"What's wrong?" She knelt down next to me. "Why are you crying?"

"I can't reach to tie my shoes anymore." I said sniffing back tears.

She tried to keep a straight face, but she couldn't help but find the situation funny.

"What's so funny?" I frowned.

"I'm sorry, it's just that you look adorable crying over something like tying your shoes." She said smiling. "Let me help you."

"Thank you." I sobbed and managed a small smile.

"This isn't just about the shoes, is it?" She looked up at me.

"How is he?" I asked, my voice hoarse from crying.

"He's filming that movie, Gone Girl." She explained.

"He took the role. That's good." I felt genuinely happy for him, but my lip trembled slightly.

"Jennifer... come on." She rolled her eyes. "You should talk to him. I think there's some information you need to know."

"I'm good." I wiped my tears.

"You are clearly not." She said handing me a tissue.

"I need to move on." I looked down.

"Move on?" She asked surprised. "Before or after having his baby?"

"He was never fully into our relationship anyway." A part of me didn't want to believe any of those words.

"Talk to him." She emphasized every word.

After Leah left, I felt very curious about what she had said. I paced back and forth, wondering what could be so important. After her visit, I couldn't shake off the feeling that there was something I was missing. It started to consume my thoughts, but I went on with my day.

The doorbell rang, and on the other side I found a delivery man standing with a large package. He handed me the receipt to sign and rushed off to the next house.

I stared at the package in confusion, wondering what it could be. Suddenly, it hit me. It was the stroller Ben and I had bought. I sighed, feeling a mix of emotions. I was happy to finally have it but sad to remember the memory behind it.

It was mostly assembled when I pulled it out of the box, but I took my time to get the last pieces in place. Once it was done, I took it out for a test drive in the living room, smiling as I imagined the baby sleeping in it. But that smile vanished at the realization that Ben wouldn't be strolling next to me.

I sat alone on my bed, clutching at my phone and staring blankly at the screen. I took a deep breath before tapping the call button, hoping that he would pick up. The phone rang several times before eventually going to voicemail. My heart sank as I heard his voice on the message.

"Hey, it's me." I paused. "Maybe this is a mistake and... I shouldn't be calling you this late but... I miss you." My voice quavered. "So much. Every day. Every night. Every damn moment, you're on my mind." Tears welled up in my eyes. "I wish I could turn back time and undo what I did, what I said." I let out a heavy sigh. "I need you."

I paused for a moment, looking at my screen, hesitating. I couldn't bring myself to send hit. Instead, I pressed delete, and I tossed my phone aside.
