The Commander's strut was calm and balanced

The Commander's strut was calm and balanced. You'd have never known he was in grave danger and lost his left arm less than 12 hours ago.

To those who believed, his back was a sign of security and hope, marching along after it in hopes of someday being able to stand beside him in the world he envisioned.

The person who thought she believed more than anyone, was the furthest behind.

Rapi looked at Anis and Neon chatting with the Commander about Absolute's role, since the two had assumed the group were overkill for such a tedious and boring task.

However, with the possibility of encountering Grave, Absolute was deemed a warranted variable in play.

"That Pilgrim called Grave doesn't seem to be the friendly type, plus there have been traces of other intelligent life forms here." Vesti explained. "We also know for certain that a Heretic is roaming around these parts as well."

The Commander's expression fell into a scowl.

"I don't support either of those claims, but who am I to obstruct the facts..." He whispered, going unheard.

The irony at play was irritating to him.

He was forced to submit the report in a way that painted Rapi in a better light. If the Central Government found out that she disobeyed a command and was the actual cause of his immobile left arm, she'd be terminated for certain.

"We ought to thank this Heretic for allowing this reunion." Emma joked.

Vesti gave a swift nod. "Yeah, especially since you guys have been so busy lately. You're becoming real big shots!"

"Yep. Things have definitely changed since I first joined the team..." Nostalgia washed over Anis as she thought about her time before the Commander.

Neon suddenly nudged her side with a grin. "Don't you feel like we've been on a roll since I joined?"

"We've got the Commander to thank for our change in fortune, not you." Anis reminded with a leer.

The Commander felt a small sense of pride at the claim. A flicker of light in the dark he was walking through. Small, momentary, but significant and impactful.

He needed it.

"You've arrived at the second installation point. You may proceed." Shifty announced.

"Oh, let me do it this time!" Anis request. "Eunhwa, give me your chest."

Eunhwa blinked. Once. Twice. Thrice.

"What?"

"I need a flat surface to put this disk on." Anis replied with a fit of giggles.

Eunhwa began to reach for her rifle as Vesti tried holding back her own laughter, but her hand twitched upon touching the handle.
