It's been a couple weeks and Aisha has been really committed to therapy and is really healing. She thought that it was time to have that conversation with her parents so she asked Fatima if she could put something together and invite them over to her house, just for moral support. And Fatima agreed that she would. It's now 7pm and Fatima has finished cooking and preparing dinner for them and it was closed too time for them to arrive. Aisha was already at the house, they were just waiting on their parents to pull up.
Fatima: Sis look at me, you've been doing so good. You got this babe, and you're strong enough to face it.
Knock knock knock
Fatima: Remember, I got you and I'm right here by your side, okay?
Aisha: Okay, I can do this.
Fatima: Yes you can.
Fatima gets the door.
Fatima: Hey mama, hey daddy. Y'all come on it.
Anita: Hey baby.
Aisha: Hey mama, hey daddy.
James: Hey baby girl.
Anita: Ti, did y'all change something around, it look different in here?
Fatima: No we just opened it up a lil, and adding lighter colors.
Anita: Okay then. Aisha how've you been.
Aisha: I've been good mama and yourself?
Anita: I've been good myself. And how's baby?
Aisha: Baby is good.
Anita: Do you know what you're having?
Aisha: I do, I just don't want to say what right now.
Anita: So what do I own my daughters.
Aisha: I wanted to have a conversation with the two of you.
Anita: What is it?
Aisha: There's something that's been weighing heavily on my heart for a while now, and I honestly just need to get it off.
James: What's wrong baby girl?
Aisha: I love y'all I do, but I just feel like y'all wasn't there the way that I needed y'all to be. Yea y'all were there financially but y'all wasn't there mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. The way that I need my mother and father to be. It was hard. And I know y'all did what y'all felt like y'all had to do to provide and give us a better life, but it damaged me. I truly felt abandoned. My sister, who's only 6 years older than me, has been the only person to ever make me feel safe. I needed that relationship with both of you. Jordan and Ti were just kids themselves trying to care for Darius and I.
As her parents were sitting there listening to her, they got emotional.
Anita: Baby I'm so sorry. I never ever wanted any of you to ever feel abandoned. It breaks my heart to even know that you've been holding this in. You father and I did the best that we knew how to be. It's no excuse to justify our absence in y'all lives. When we should have paid more attention to what y'all needed from us as parents then what we felt was best for y'all. I love y'all, you all are my heartbeats. And I always want y'all to feel safe in us.
Aisha: It hurts. I'm not good at expressing myself the way that Ti is, so I allow my emotions to get the best of me at times.
James: Baby as your father I just want to say that I'm sorry. I should've been there more. I never realized how hurt and damaged you are till now. It wasn't never my intentions to make you feel abandoned. As the man of the house I should've been more present in your life emotionally, spiritually, and mentally then I was trying to be financially.
Anita: Baby I know we can't redo what's been done, so what can we do to build a better relationship? What do you need from us?
Aisha: Well right now I just need y'all more than anything. I'm struggling with my identity, being pregnant, and going through a separation with a man that I thought I would spend the rest of my life with. I'm hurting and I just need my family right now more than anything.
Anita: And you got us.
Fatima: Aisha, you are strong sis. And I'm so so proud of you. Your braveness is inspiring. And don't ever hid how you feel. One thing mom and dad taught us, is to always be honest and transparent with how we feel no matter how ugly it is. And I know that I have a family now and you may feel like I forgot all about you, but I haven't. Sis you're welcome here anytime. All you gotta do is call me and be like "Sis I need you" and I'm there. I'm doors are always open. Sis I love you and we're going to work together this and be here as long as you need us to be.
Aisha: I know sis and I love you too.
Fatima: Y'all ready to eat.
Anita: Yes,
James: I love both of you and I always want y'all to be honest with us. We may be your parents but it's okay to tell us where we're lacking at.
Fatima: I know daddy.
Anita: Where's the family?
Fatima: Zac took them out with Jordan while Andi's spending time with her sister and dad.
Anita: That's sweet.
Fatima: They actually should be home soon.
Anita: Okay then.
The four of them just sat and had dinner together.
