Few lights were switched on in the prestigious, supernatural school. The strong scent of metal reached the noses of the two vampires who were climbing up the rocky walls, grunting and gasping as they reached the top floor. Ayato carefully lifted the large window, hoisting himself through before pulling his wife up with him.
"When did you become so strong?" He whispered to her as he looked down at the three flights they'd climbed, "You never would have been able to do that a year ago."
"I know," she replied, staring at her bright red fingertips, "but I was human back then." Ayato only nodded as he dragged a hand through his red hair.
"Did we really have to dress up in these?" He asked, gesturing to the tight black fabric which embraced his figure.
"Yes," she said, "it makes our mission feel more mission-y."
"You're so weird."
"Don't be so mean," she scowled as she tip-toed down the corridor, towards the security room, "I hope there's no guard."
"Yours Truly can take them out for you, don't worry." Ayato smirked, causing her to roll her eyes.
He watched her closely, his smirk stretching into a sweet smile. He loved seeing Yui as herself, the real her and not a frightened little girl. He was thrilled that she was even comfortable enough to be herself around him.
"Ayato," she whispered, catching his attention, "come on."
She slipped through a heavy door, followed by Ayato whose eyes widened and the dozens of cameras on screen.
"This feels eerie," Yui whispered excitedly, "watch the door."
"Don't tell me what to do," he huffed.
"What was it you told me on our wedding night?" She asked, raising her eyebrow. "Tell me." Ayato's face flushed red. "Well?"
"That you were in control unless we were in the bedroom…" He murmured as if he were ashamed.
"Exactly," she smirked, wiggling her eyebrows at him as she pointed at the door. He stayed silent.
Her round eyes scanned the camera locations and it took her a while before she spotted the one outside the Chemistry Lab. She managed to find the recordings, rewinding to when she spotted Athena leaving the classroom. Her face fell when she noticed the unwell, frightened state her friend was in. She followed her through the corridors, catching sight of a certain blonde who'd been stalking her.
"Who is that?" She whispered, zooming in on the face, "He looks like…" she fell quite as she noticed a long-haired girl fall into step with him, following the oblivious red-head. The tall man merely nodded before he disappeared. "Teleportation…" She mumbled, frowning as she skipped forward. Yui stifled a gasp as she looked into the infirmary, catching sight of the man stuffing Athena's body into a guitar case. "That's…"
"What is it?" Ayato asked.
"Mr Akamatsu kidnapped her."
"Mr Who?"
"The history teacher."
"That old geezer?"
"Who's in there?" A loud shout sounded, alerting them.
Ayato dashed towards Yui, grasping her hand and teleporting just as the door swung open, revealing a large security guard. They landed in the bushes outside, Yui feeling extremely weak as she leaned against her knees.
"I'm sorry," Ayato whispered, "I'm sorry."
"You could have taken us back," she grumbled, hand on her stomach as she coughed.
