First of all, the characters are not mine, they belong to Priest who is a wonderful writer.

This is my second book and it is linked to the first, Love Never Dies, but even if you haven't read it, this one is fun on it's own. I enjoyed writing this one more than the first which I thought would have been impossible. Any way Enjoy.

Chapter 1.

It was raining again and he didn't feel like going out but he had said yes to the invitation and rather than offend the person by not turning up, he reluctantly phoned a taxi. On arrival he was guided to his table where he waited for the rest of the guests to arrive, asking for a glass of water while he listened to the different voices in the room. Dull murmurs with an occasional laugh, cutlery tapping plates as they carried on eating and enjoying their meals, glasses clink toasting, and wine bottles being uncorked, all every day noises of a successful restaurant.

Zhao Yunlan had been blind since birth, therefore his other senses were acutely tuned to his surroundings wherever he was, at home or now in this place. His lack of sight had not hindered his career in any way, as he had adapted his way of working to suit his abilities and managed to achieve success in his field as a police detective. His staff were loyal, working diligently to maintain the success record of their department and tonight were celebrating the closure of the latest, toughest case that they had worked on for quite some time. They were also late and Yunlan was thinking about leaving the restaurant when he heard them coming, so he remained seated.

Chu Shuzhi was usually his eyes in unfamiliar places, but tonight Yunlan really didn't feel well and wanted to go home, so he tolerated the conversation for a little longer before asking Chu to organise a taxi for him. The others could see in his manner that he was not in good form and said goodnight to him as his transport arrived, and Chu led him out to the awaiting car. Yunlan knew the route and listened to the rain hitting the roof as they drove, splashing through a couple of puddles before the driver slammed on the brakes when a couple of masked men stopped the car to rob it. He didn't carry a gun for obvious reasons but listening intently, he could tell that they were both armed, voices put them in the twenty age group and by the way they moved, he knew that they were athletic. The driver didn't fight them, he would not have survived without serious injury, so he opened his window and gave them his takings, but not satisfied with that alone, they wanted any cash or valuables from Yunlan. They opened his door and pulled him out into the rain asking again for his wallet which had very little in it, because Yunlan never carried cash. They searched him roughly for anything of value when they realised that he was blind, and would not be a witness to their identity, he was struck on the side of his head and knocked to the ground

During their shift of attention, the taxi driver floored the pedal and sped off before they had time to attack him. Yunlan only hoped that he would go and report it to the police, meaning that he would soon have help, but it arrived much quicker than he expected. The two men were attacked as someone came up behind them and threw them against a wall, knocking them unconscious. Yunlan heard the footsteps coming towards him and a soft hand slipped under one of his to help him to his feet, and walked around him looking for any more injuries.
