The plan was set, they would bring the Guards to save Yunlan with a power transfer to help him survive until Black Robe appeared and could heal him. No one questioned why he was so weak and Ava couldn't find a physical reason, so it must be emotional. The effects could have come from Shen Wei's dreams, he did witness a few bad ones, plus he'd had several scares recently including the attack in the taxi and Shen Wei's death which was devastating for him, even although he was resuscitated. Now he was going through a merge with a previous spirit of his ancestor, it was a strain on his body and he expected too much.
Nurse Ava sat beside him watching and hoping that his friends could really pull off what they were going to do, it was all so fanciful, it didn't seem real. He was a descendant of the Guardian what ever that meant as far as he was concerned, she didn't know, but apparently, it was a good thing.
"May I call you Ava," Lin Jing asked as he approached her and sat down at the bottom of Yunlan's bed, and she nodded once.
"Ava, in your house, did you ever see a picture of his ancestor with a lollipop, if you did, he was the Guardian who was responsible for peace between two worlds, he worked alongside all our ancestors, including the cat and Chu. He was also deeply in love with Shen Wei who was a professor and Black Robe. I'll show you his picture because at some point tonight or tomorrow, you might get the chance to see him and I don't want you to be afraid. Look, he always wore this, his black cloak and mask. His entrance was always impressively intimidating to those who broke the law. To us it was respectful to bow in his presence. Ava, both of them were very powerful men, if Yunlan can make it through this little upset to his system and believe me, he has dealt with much worse in his past lives, you will see just how powerful he can be.
The Guards are completely loyal to Shen Wei and Yunlan, and also me, but not many know that, it happened at the power transfer the last time they had to perform it and Shen Wei was at death's door, command was given to me in case anything happened to Yunlan during the transfer, but they both survived. Chu was listening and felt very proud of Lin Jing taking the time to try and calm Ava by explaining in simple non frightening terms, and he moved away to look for the cat. Daqing was still sitting at the table and staring into space when Chu sat down beside him.
"How can I help the Guards, when I don't even know how to activate the talismans? Gelan said that they need power to be activated and that you and I have some, and you can't touch them, so it has to be me."
Chu called Gelan over to join their conversation, maybe she could help Daqing find a starting point with the papers.
"Gelan, how old are you? I'm not being rude, I just wondered if you were around to see anyone actually using the talismans and what they did with them."
