Monday morning at work, the staff were slowly becoming aware that something important must have happened at the weekend, involving Yunlan Chu and Da Qing. All three were behaving differently and not in a good way.
The youngster was very quiet and withdrawn, answering questions with one word yes or no, and willingly obeyed to bring coffee to all of them at their desks without argument.
Chu arrived ten minutes late with no excuse and brought a coffee to Daqing with kindness, leaving him to finish it in peace as he fetched his own, while drinking it at his desk day dreaming, staring in to empty space.
Yunlan arrived on time but was very disorientated causing Chu to rush forward and catch him before he walked into another desk, and guided him to his office while he signalled Daqing for hot sweet tea to be brought over and he closed the door. They all sat waiting for the first person to speak until Yunlan put his cup down.
"It's time we explained some things that we've not told you," and he looked in Daqing's direction.
"In the past, we were all very good friends, I was from this world, from the world who started the war, the world that thought nothing of torturing a young man to gain power, the world who threw away the chance to evolve into better human beings," and his hands began to shake.
Chu lifted the cup and placed it in his grasp helping him to calm down, and he carried on where Yunlan left off.
"The gateway or door between the worlds was sealed by agreement as part of the peace treaty, only Black Robe has access to travel between the two worlds. We don't know exactly what happened to him to cause his death but Shen Wei has access to his memories in his dreams, and a great deal of them are nightmares."
Yunlan was now calm enough to continue with their dialogue.
"Chu and I feel as if the final nightmare is coming closer and we have been reading the books looking for anything to help but we've only been finding more frightening memories which Shen Wei may already have dreamt about or not"
Yunlan took a break and drank some more of his tea in the silence of the office while the other two sat motionless.
"Gelan continually watches over him, she is like a mother hen, she knows where he is at all times and will contact us when its necessary for us to be there."
Daqing found his voice and asked,
"What happens when the nightmares stop? Will he be alright? Does Gelan know what will happen?"
Chu froze, he couldn't keep it a secret any more and hoped that Gelan would understand but before he could answer, the computer came to life and Gelan's face filled the screen. Yunlan didn't know what was happening until she spoke to him and apologised for intruding.
