The Return

Chapter 26

The face in front of Shen Wei smiled contentedly, he had wished for this for a very long time, to be able to lower his hood and talk openly. It had crushed his emotions, disappointment every time there was a failure in finding the one to give this power to, but now there was hope and he would be able to rest.

Wei stepped forward touch the face that he knew so well, slowly beginning to understand the immense importance of what this man had agreed to, for such a long time, feeling his heart fill with so many emotions that he couldn't speak, only draw him closer into his arms to hold and never let go. He had made his decision at that point while he held on, only feeling the love returning to him, calming his racing heart while the man in his arms grew weaker.

Two chairs conveniently appeared beside them and they slowly broke apart to sit and talk.

"What will happen after the transfer, I'm not concerned about myself but what about you, you've held the power for so long?" Wei asked him, he could see him growing tired.

"I am so tired, I will be glad to rest but you won't lose me, I will join with the other one living and become part of a memory, it has already started, you hold everything in your heart now, later when you are ready, take a look into your memories and they will hold all the answers."

Wei watched as the host grew weak, fading into nothingness and was gone, now not knowing what he should be feeling. His own Yunlan was alive beside him, sleeping in the hospital room, but this one had lived only to save an important piece of his life, and kept it alive for him. Shen Wei needed some time and he took the host's advice, and found an area that was comfortable for him, he sat down to meditate and examine the legacy in his mind. Kunlun felt the relief and overwhelming joy that there was now going to be new Black Robe, but he would miss the company of his old friend Yunlan, who would join the memories of the current one on earth below. He watched as Shen Wei sat down on the floor, to begin meditating with his eyes closed and controlling his breathing, exploring his mind for answers, peacefully.

The office was the same every morning, noisy with conversation and the kettle was non stop until every one had their morning cuppa, tea or coffee. Today was no different except that Chu was late again and Daqing was still working in the archives, even the cat arrived at work before Chu made it this morning but ran away from the staff and headed downstairs to the calmness of the dungeon where he could relax and maybe find out how to change his form from cat to person.

Chu shouted down to Daqing for the benefit of the office staff, "Tea or coffee this morning, or a glass of milk? OK milk it is." and carried his own coffee while he descended the stairs to join the cat.

"How long can we keep this up, they will find out sometime?" Chu was running out of excuses  and the staff only saw the cat every day.

"Once I find out how it works, it'll be OK." the cat said hopefully but not confident in finding out anytime soon.
