Yunlan's nurse had a name but no one ever used it, she was always called Nurse, but Ava didn't mind this, it was recognition for what she was and she was proud to be called by that title. She had been working in Yunlan's service since she qualified and replaced her mother who had delivered him when he was born, the normal way of entering employment in his house, follow your family. He could be sure of loyalty in all his staff who had witnessed many strange events over the years that were never revealed outside to the rest of the world.
Ava liked Shen Wei, she took an instant liking to him, he was good to Yunlan and cared for him, anyone could see that, so she never questioned why they were going to his house or why they needed protection, but she would hurt anyone who tried to get near them. She did have some unanswered questions in her mind but was willing to wait for the answer to come automatically, in her employment with Yunlan, that happened often. Da Qing was a question, how did he change from cat to person but he was a good friend to Yunlan. Chu had the amazing ability to produce strings from his hands and she loved that idea but totally couldn't understand how he did it. Gelan wasn't alive but she was a nice ghost, so Ava liked her.
Ava's knowledge of technology stopped with medical equipment but she had been told that Shen Wei's house was secure, especially the medical room, sometimes called the medical bay. The journal was uneventful and safe for both patients, nurse watched them, "It's as if they weresleeping," she thought. She had never seen Yunlan so peaceful. The ambulance pulled up outside the front of the house and she was shocked, it looked really old and ready to fall down, how could she agree to take them in there, modern, was someone having a joke at her expense and she hesitated.
"What is it nurse, help bring them in quickly." Chu almost barked at her and she still didn't move, just stared. A gentle hand touched her shoulder and she turned to look at Gelan who whispered to her,
"Ava, bring them in to the safety of the medical bay with me."
Ava didn't know why she obeyed the soft voice, was it because she used her name or because she spoke nicely, or because she trusted her, but she immediately helped to make sure that everything they needed was also brought in, and she was shown to the well laid out modern medical bay, which outshone hers in Yunlan's house. She made sure that Shen Wei and Yunlan were carefully placed in the comfortable beds and were provided with the essentials for all their needs. She was very impressed with all the technology that she understood and also glanced at the more technical pieces that she didn't. Then it dawned on her, the outside was camouflage for a highly technological home and she felt safe for herself and for her patients.
Chu made his way to the security room where he could see all the rooms on screen and tell where everyone was. He also checked the outside cameras which showed perfect views of all sides of the buildings exterior, and he felt as though he was preparing for a war with all this technology. He watched as Da Qing wandered from room to room, exploring dark corners and walking along table tops, leaping from high shelves to low places under the furniture. He seemed to find every hidden camera in every room and gave Chu too many full cat face views in the lenses, he was beginning to question the intelligence of the man who installed them, did he allow for cat's curiosity of Da Qing's method of fun. Chu looked away for one second and the cat was gone, no doubt he'd find another lens to peer into, so Chu wasn't concerned.
