Shen Wei had been sitting in the one position for a very long time in the Enigma room but in his mind, it seemed a lot longer.
He was seeing himself performing acts of courage, saving lives, and the opposite, taking lives, all in one long continuous dream, from one situation into another, fighting skills, using weapons during war and also in peace time. The people around him changed, faces, ages, abilities that he had never seen or even imagined could exist, good souls and the bad whom he brought to justice but there was always the one person constantly in his mind and heart, Zhao Yunlan.
He watched their beginnings and their end, when he became the never ending flame.
He watched as the second world was discovered bringing war through mistrust and finding another Yunlan living in that one, saving him when he should have died.
He watched Chu and Yunlan fight to save his life after a bomb attack that was meant to kill Black Robe.
He watched Yunlan commit suicide to save Shen Wei's life from the assassin's drug.
And he watched for Yunlan to return over and over again but he couldn't, not until Kunlun gave him the chance, which he grabbed with both hands. All of these memories were locked away in Black Robe's Spirit which were now being released into Shen Wei's mind to see and understand. After the Black Robe Entity was brought to the Enigma room and joined with Yunlan's ghost from that time line, he had a whole new existence of being able to watch Shen Wei as a different person and view his life. The professor who was dedicated to his students and had never heard of Zhao Yunlan or Black Robe, living a peaceful life up until he died.
Black Robe didn't live, he survived in the Enigma room with his host Zhao Yunlan and kept company with Kunlun who had voluntarily been there for quite some time. The two had become friends when Yunlan had returned to Shen Wei in a previous existence, he allowed Kunlun into his life occasionally in gratitude for his generous gift. Unfortunately here in the Enigma room, the strength in the Black Robe Entity was too strong for Yunlan's previous spirit to host permanently which thankfully was not in their plan, but it meant watching for the right version of Shen Wei to be re-incarnated.
Kunlun rescued Gelan when her spirit gave up after losing the love of her life and offered her a new role, to care for the Black Robe Entity who was too valuable to the world to lose through time. So she accepted and started the long painful search for the right Shen Wei to become one with Black Robe. They watched life after life pass and begin again, suffering disappointment when he wasn't the one, waiting for the next life to start all over again and during this time, the Entity was growing weaker.
Shen Wei watched as the nightmares hit his predecessors and they failed to be the next host one after the other until he recognised himself as a young boy with troubled sleep. His parents blamed it on an over active imagination and waited for him to grow out of it, but he never did and then he stopped telling them about the dreams. It was a shock to him when they died in a car crash but an even bigger one when Black Robe revealed that they were brought before Kunlun to talk, explaining to them why their son was dreaming and then sent them on their way.
