"I've had it, I'm not cleaning up this shit," Mattheo grumbles with a hint of exasperation.
"We don't really have a choice..." I roll my eyes with a sigh, plucking another sticky gum from under a desk. "Ew, that's really gross!"
It's barely been two weeks since we re-entered sixth year, yet here we are once again in detention.
This time, our alleged crime: a late-night escapade through the corridors of Hogwarts.
Today's mission? To clean Professor Trelawney's Divination classroom. Not exactly the most exciting job of my life.
"Oh, come on! This is so unfair! What did we do wrong?" continues Mattheo, collapsing onto the desk I'm polishing.
"Remind me again why I left the girls' dormitory to join you at this hour?" I grumble, trying to suppress my frustration.
Last night my three best friends, Theodore, Mattheo and Lorenzo, picked me up from my dorm after curfew.
They pounded on the door until I came out. I managed to sneak out of the dorm before my roomates went crazy from the noise.
The result? We got caught, obviously.
"Oh, please shut up! It was fun," chuckles Theodore, his eyes sparkling with mischief.
I just roll my eyes, not finding the energy to respond.
"You know what I think? I think we should get the hell out of here," exclaims Matt, glancing meaningfully towards the open window.
"Matt, shut up, please.." I let out a weary sigh as I continue to polish the tables next to Lorenzo.
Lorenzo and Matt, half-brothers related by the blood of Bellatrix Lestrange, share a bond far more complex than simple kinship. This unusual family dynamic fuels rumours around the school, as does Mattheo's kinship with none other than Voldemort himself. A connection he generally prefers not to talk about.
"I'm serious! Why don't we go out the window?" insists Matt, a mischievous smile floating across his lips.
"Merlin Mattheo, we've got enough problems as it is," squeaks Lorenzo as he throws a hard piece of gum at Matt, who ducks with a disgusted pout.
"That's a risk I'm willing to take," Matt retorts as he glances out the window, challenging the stranger.
"Matt, don't!" I shout as he comes dangerously close to the ledge.
"Too late!" sneers Matt as he pushes the window wide open.
I glance at Theodore and Enzo, already up and ready to follow him. I let out a resigned sigh and straighten up.
