Mom’s nagging words still rang in my ears as I stepped out onto the patio, her endless pressure about marriage pressing down on me.
Rehaan was already there, lounging with a drink in his hand. In the fading light, he looked far too relaxed compared to the storm brewing inside me.
“What was it this time with your mom?” he asked casually, though his eyes already held the answer.
I sank onto the couch with a sigh. “The usual—marriage.”
Rehaan chuckled, shaking his head. “Why don’t you just give in? Find a girl, get married, make her happy.”
I scoffed. “You know me, Rehaan. I’ve never been interested in girls. Not even once. I’ve seen how most of them treat relationships—it’s always about the money, the luxury, the family name. They’ll do anything to get what they want.”
His smile softened, though tinged with amusement. “Aarush, not all women are like that. Some actually value self-respect over benefits.”
His words struck something inside me—a memory. That night at Hotel Star Fine. A girl’s voice—sharp, fearless, impossible to ignore.
“Aarush, are you even listening?” Rehaan’s voice cut through my haze.
I blinked, startled. “What?”
“Where did you drift off to?” His lips curved into a knowing grin.
I cleared my throat. “I was thinking about that incident at Hotel Star Fine.”
Rehaan leaned forward. “What happened there?”
Before I could answer, a voice boomed behind us. “Here you guys are! I’ve been looking all over.” Ranveer strolled in like a storm, smug grin plastered across his face.
We both stared at him, stunned. “Weren’t you out of the city?” Rehaan asked.
“I was lying,” Ranveer said simply.
“Why?” I frowned.
He shrugged, eyes glinting. “For fun. Now move and give me a drink.”
Typical Ranveer—mischief wrapped in charm. A notorious flirt who juggled girlfriends like hobbies.
Rehaan turned back to me. “Now tell us. What happened at that hotel?”
Ranveer perked up instantly. “Yes, continue. Don’t leave me out.”
I drew in a breath. “Fine. I was at the restaurant when two women walked in. They sat behind me, meeting with Pratap Shankar. One was calm, composed. The other—she was fire itself. A female Lucifer.”
Ranveer let out a laugh. “Female Lucifer? Now that’s a woman I want to meet.”
“She’s not like your silly girlfriends,” I snapped. “Listen first.”
He held up his hands in surrender.
“Pratap demanded seventy-five percent profit. They refused. Then he dropped it to fifty-fifty—but with one disgusting condition. He wanted… one night with her.”
