“Happy first anniversary, wife,” I whispered, my lips brushing hers as I held her close.
“I can't believe it's been a year since we got married,” she murmured, a small smile gracing her lips as she looked into my eyes.
“Me neither,” I breathed, a rush of affection flooding me.
“I don't want to move,” I confessed, snuggling closer. “I just love lying here, wrapped in your warmth.” I tightened my arms around her and buried my face in the crook of her neck.
“Hm, I know you do, but we should get up,” she said, attempting to wriggle free. I held her tighter.
“Aarush, let me go. Everyone's waiting downstairs.”
“I know, but just five more minutes, Babydoll.” I refused to release her.
“Aarush, but–”
“Aarush... Riti…” Mom's voice echoed from beyond the door.
“God! Mom's outside. Move!” She shoved me away playfully and dashed into the bathroom.
“Mom…” I muttered under my breath. I scrambled out of bed, pulling on my pants before opening the door.
“Aarush, were you sleeping until now?” she asked, her eyebrows raised.
“Actually, yeah, Mom,” I admitted, scratching the back of my neck.
“Oh God. I can't believe—wait a minute... where's Riti?” Her eyes scanned the room.
“She's... she's taking a shower,” I stammered.
“Oh, okay. Then get ready soon, the guests will be here any minute.”
“Okay, Mom,” I nodded.
“I'm going downstairs then,” she said, disappearing down the hallway.
After closing the door, I absently scrolled through my phone until Riti's phone started ringing and interrupted me. It was Ishaan, calling Riti's phone at this ungodly hour. I snatched it up and answered.
“Happy wedding anniversary, Lily,” he said, using the nickname I loathed.
“Thanks,” I replied, curtly.
“Oh, Aarush?”
“Yeah, it's me. Thanks for the wishes on behalf of my wife.”
“Aarush, are you both going to Kerala tonight?” His voice held a strained quality.
“Yeah, why?”
“Then be careful. I've got information that Red Marvel is somewhere near Kerala…” His words sent a chill down my spine.
“What!”
“Yeah, Aarush… be careful and take care of Riti, too.” His voice was tight with tension.
