When I opened my eyes, I was in a private jet. Aarush was sitting beside me and he was acting strangely. I told him there is no need for us to cancel the trip because of my worry for my mother. But he had to took me to Kerala when I was fucking sleeping.
“Aarush, you shouldn't have actually canceled our trip just because I was worried…” I said and he stared at me. His look is different.
Something is wrong.
“Aarush, is there anything I should know?” I asked and he evidently gulped.
He is making me worried.
He remained silent and held me closer, his lips pressing on my hair.
I know something is wrong and he is not ready to say anything.
I didn't force him. I sat in silence and wrapped myself in his warmth.
Soon we were in the Cochin International Airport.
Aarush's hand was protectively placed on the small of my back as we walked out of the jet.
When we reached the platform, I saw my brother and some paps were also there outside the airport. Aarush’s hand moved to my waist, pulling me closer to him.
Eattan soon approached us. His face is pale and looking weary.
“Little one, how was your flight?” He asked, placing his hand on my cheek.
“Fine. What happened, Eatta?” I asked him and he looked at Aarush and some silent communication going between them.
“I will say. Let's go home now.” Eattan said as he wrapped a hand around my shoulder.
We were walking to the car but suddenly paps surrounded us and guards helped us to move forward.
“Ms. Dhriti Krishna, are you the daughter of journalist Mr. Das Varma? What do you have to say about the suicide of Mrs. Vrindha Das Varma?” one of the reporters asked and I halted in my steps.
What the hell did he say now?
I looked at my brother and then my husband. They didn't say anything.
“Please, let us go now. We literally have nothing to say now.” My brother said we pushed through the paps.
But I barely registered the pushing, the shoving, the continued shouts around me. The reporter's words had created a vacuum, sucking all other sounds into a black hole of disbelief.
My mom… she really did that?
No. Maybe I misheard it.
Dad said she was fine, right?
No. Nothing should have happened.
“Riti… get in the car.” I heard Aarush saying to me, his voice a distant echo. I don't know what possessed me, what disconnected switch flipped in my brain, but I obeyed, moving with a mechanical precision, getting inside the car like a robot, devoid of feeling or will.
