Haldi Day
The final touches were being added to my attire. Maya, with her deft fingers, had just secured my dupatta, leaving me feeling a sense of satisfaction with the way I looked. “Okay. Perfect,” she declared, her voice brimming with approval.Aashvi, ever the stylist, presented me with a pair of earrings. “Riti Di, try these. I think they'll complement your outfit.”
Isha Di chimed in, “Yeah, those are definitely better than the ones you're wearing now.”
I, ever the trusting one, nodded and agreed to swap, feeling a hint of excitement at the prospect of a fresh look.
“Now you look perfect,” the three girls exclaimed, circling me like a pack of delighted wolves, admiring the final product. Their enthusiasm was infectious, and I couldn't help but smile, feeling a surge of confidence as I basked in their compliments.
The door opened and Aditi Ma entered, her presence radiating a calm assurance. “Girls, are you all ready?” she inquired.
“Yeah.” Isha Di, ever the leader, nodded.
“Then let’s go before getting late.” Aditi Ma said.As we were on the verge of departing, the door swung open once more, and there they were, standing in the doorway - Ishaan, Chris, Aarush, and even my own brother.
“Guys, is everything alright?” Isha Di inquired, her voice tinged with concern.
The compliments began, initiated by my brother, who remarked, “Riti, you look so pretty.” Chris then chimed in with “So ethereal,” followed by Ishaan's “So gorgeous,” and finally, even my soon-to-be husband couldn't resist adding his own sentiments, “So alluring.” Our group erupted in a bout of shared laughter at their collective admiration.
However, I couldn't help but notice the tension that had been etched on their faces upon their arrival. “Thank you,” I replied, “but... you guys rushed in to say this?” My curiosity was evident, as I sought to understand the urgency of their visit.
My brother turned towards Aditi Ma, and with a tone that begged for understanding, he stated, “Actually, Aditi Ma, we need to talk to Riti, in private.”
A silence fell over the room, as we all waited for Aditi Ma's response. With a gentle yet firm demeanour, she finally replied, “But Vikram, it's already time to start the haldi ceremony.”
Ishaan persisted, “Mom, just five minutes, not more than that.” His pleading gaze was met with a mixture of understanding and hesitation in Aditi Ma's eyes.
She weighed the pros and cons before finally nodding her head, "Okay. Come to the pool area after your talk." Ishaan beamed with a sense of relief and nodded, “Fine.”
The atmosphere in the room shifted subtly, Eattan gave a firm nod and with a stern yet caring tone, addressed Isha Di, “Isha, go with Aditi Ma.”
Aarush, followed suit, directing the group “Aashvi and Maya, you too.” The girls exchanged brief glances before turning to follow their elders, Isha Di casting a suspicious look at my brother before leaving, who simply responded with a small smile.
