Aarush and Dhriti were still at the office, long after most of their colleagues had left for the day. They were both engrossed in their respective tasks, their fingers tapping away at their laptop keyboards, their eyes focused on the screens in front of them.
Dhriti was the first to break the silence, glancing up at Aarush as she closed her laptop, "Can we leave? If your work is finished."
Aarush looked up, his expression slightly surprised, before nodding in agreement, "Yeah." He too closed his laptop, stood up, and walked over to where Dhriti was sitting. They exited the cabin together, making their way towards the elevator. As they waited for the elevator to arrive, an awkward silence settled between them, neither able or willing to initiate a conversation.
When the elevator doors finally opened, they both stepped in, the weight of the silence bearing down on them further. Neither Aarush nor Dhriti spoke a word, their eyes focused on the floor or the elevator buttons, avoiding each other's gaze.
Suddenly, Dhriti's phone rang, breaking the silence. She immediately reached for her phone, glancing at the screen before answering, "Hello...Where are you man? How many times I called you?"
Aarush tried his best not to seem too interested in the conversation, but his ears were straining to listen to the words being exchanged on the other end of the line. He could hear a male voice responding, "Sorry Riti...I was really busy. That's why I didn't get the time to call you. Anyways, leave all that...are you taking your medicines on time?" Aarush couldn't help but feel a pang of curiosity as to who this man was, and why he was checking up on Dhriti. However, he knew he had no right to pry.
Dhriti replied, "Yeah...I'm taking medicines on time. I will call you when I reach home."
Ishaan, replied, "Yeah, fine. Be careful." With that, the call ended. Dhriti seemed lost in her thoughts, her gaze fixed on the now silent phone screen.
Aarush's curiosity got the better of him. He asked, "Who was that?" his tone betraying his eagerness to know more about Dhriti's mysterious caller and his apparent concern for her.
However, Dhriti was not as forthcoming as he had hoped. She responded in a cold, distant tone, "You think that I will answer your question?" Her response was laced with a hint of annoyance, which only served to pique Aarush's curiosity further.
Aarush was visibly annoyed by her answer. He couldn't understand why she was being so secretive.
"Grumpy Lady," he mumbled under his breath, his annoyance evident.
Dhriti's reaction was immediate. She raised her left eyebrow and asked, "What did you say?"
Aarush, realizing he had been caught, quickly composed himself and replied with a tight smile on his lips, "Nothing." But deep down, he knew he was far from satisfied with the answer.
They finally arrived at the parking lot, Aarush leading the way as they approached his luxurious vehicle. With a sense of excitement and confidence, he intentionally took the driver's seat. Prior to their departure, he had already informed the driver that he would be operating the car himself for the day.
Dhriti took her place in the passenger seat beside him. With a slight look of confusion, she began to put on her seat belt, but unfortunately, it was not functioning properly.
Dhriti examined the uncooperative safety device, a look of frustration crossing her face. She let out a light chuckle and turned to Aarush, "Your car is very expensive, but it seems the seat belt is not working properly," she commented, gesturing towards her side of the vehicle.
