"Fuck her, that's insane." Kevin squeaked out in shocked as they sat around the lunch table.
The group was listening to Hunter and Frankie explain what happened with his mother over the weekend. Her sudden arrival after years, trying to kick Frankie out, trying to dictate Hunter's life and how he was now temporarily living with the Sullivan's.
"How does she think you would be okay with her coming back and treating you like this?" Emily asked confusedly.
"The bigger question is, why is your dad rolling over and letting her? I thought you guys were closer now." Clay questioned as well.
"Yeah, I thought so too." Hunter said somberly. That may have been what was bothering him the most. His dad was always a sucker for anything his mom said. She was great at getting what she wanted from him. All she had to do was flutter her eyes and he would cave in for anything she wanted. He was hopelessly in love with her and she knew how to use it.
Since battle of the bands in their Sophomore year, he and Hunter made amends and had worked greatly on their own relationship. Even seeking counseling together for some time. It was the closest they have ever been. All being wiped away in one single day.
"At least Frankie has a supportive dad for you guys." Lisa added in. Trying to bring some positivity to the conversation.
Hunter's smile faintly raised as he looked over to his left. Giving Frankie's hand a light squeeze as their eyes lite up at one another.
He spent all night and morning telling her and Morgan how appreciative he was of them. If one thing remained consistent in life it was Frankie and Morgan's bond. Hunter was loving how he got to have more of his own dynamic within it now. Cherishing each of them for separate reasons.
"And you seriously punched a tree?" Kevin asked while looking at Hunter's still wrapped hand.
The table all laughed at his poor judgement choice, Hunter included. As the bell rang at the end of lunch the gang headed off to their fourth hours. Just trying to get through the rest of the day.
Frankie and Hunter were sat in their seats on the opposite side of English. She looked over frequently to see him looking completely lost in thought. Noticing that he was zoned out and not paying attention to anything in class.
She felt bad for not being able to do more than offer him a place to stay. Knowing nothing could make up for the betrayal of his father or actions of his mother. But she'd be damned if she didn't at least try and be there for him in any way possible.
