The actual explanation

Mateo Moore's POV:

"Why are they not expelled?!" Ava came to my office, this time not even knocking on the door. "I clearly told you that they needed to be out of my way!" she shouted again. I didn't even move from where I was sitting. "Didn't you hear me?" she shouted again, coming closer to my desk. I stood up.

"I heard you well enough to tell you that I gave them a few," I stressed on the last word. "Hours of general useful labor. They won't have time for all studying, training, and the punishment," I told her proudly, becoming a witness of my daughter's shocked facial expression. But it was as if it wasn't because of what I had done. "What?" I finally inquired.

"What did you say about "training"?" she quoted with her fingers. "About Olivia, Paige, and Blake?" she clarified as if I didn't now who we had been talking about. I sat on my chair and leaned back, watching my daughter doing the same in front of me. It was going to be an interesting conversation.

Olivia's POV:

"I can ask you the same," the woman's voice echoed in the massive living room. "And what are Ms. Campbell, Ms. Davies, and Ms. Lee doing here?" she then turned to us. We didn't answer anything, and her gaze turned to him again. "Daniel?"

"What are you doing here, Amaya?" Mr. Nicolas repeated, but this time I felt...softness? in his voice. "You should be at school at this time of the day," he said, looking at his watch again.

"You should've been too," she returned with a somewhat of a snap. "I got fired," she said all of a sudden after a few seconds of quietness in the room. We all turned our eyes to her.

"How?" Mr. Nicolas barely managed to say.

"Mr. Moore told me to ask you," she shrugged and directed her look at us, still not understanding what was going on.

"That son of a-" he started saying as soon as he heard who was responsible for Ms. Harper's firing. Ms. Harper's words, however, interrupted him. "I'm gonna sue him and the school," he finally said.

"Hey, hey, don't need to get angry over something I was considering for a while," he looked at her, and she nodded, confirming that she had been thinking about retiring soon. "Now, tell me," she took his hand. What? "What happened?" In answer of which, Mr. Nicolas walked to the sofa and sat on it, his hands holding his head.

"I quit," he said. The room fell silent once again. We just looked at each other, shocked by the information our teacher told us. Even Ms. Harper seemed surprised and looked at us like we had an explanation for Mr. Nicolas' employment state. "Because Mateo," was that Mr. Moore's first name? Were Mr. Nicolas and Mr. Moore friends? And what's more. Why would a Mr. Moore sack a friend of his? "Decided somehow that I was favoring students," she looked from him to us, not understanding what was going on. "Because I'm training Blake, Paige, and Olivia," he explained to his...I didn't even know what their relationship was. She looked at him amazed, but it looked like she knew about his past. Only the little detail of him training us was missing in the puzzle she called the life of Daniel Nicolas. "I stood up for you three," he turned to us. "And I specifically asked him not to do anything to you because you hadn't done anything wrong," he said, looking down. "It was me who started training you. I just wanted to help, but..." I think he was breaking down as I was in the day I fainted. "I never wanted you to get fired," he turned to Ms. Harper. "Or to cause you to stay after school, as Mr.-" I cut him off by hugging him. I could tell he was shocked at first, but after a few seconds, he returned the hug. A few moments of tranquility later, I felt Blake and Paige also joining the hug. Ms. Harper was still standing on her place. Or so I think. My eyes were closed. He patted my back as we broke the hug. It felt a little awkward and absolutely normal at the same time.

"Do you want me to give you a sedative pill?" I asked him. "I still have some left from the day I passed out," he looked me amazed. "Oops," I chuckled nervously. "I haven't told you?" I asked, and he shook his head. "I'm managing," I tried to calm him down. "The panic attacks are almost gone," I added, and he looked at me with the same expression.

"She's not good at calming people down," Blake's hand was on my shoulder. "She can't calm even herself," she smiled mischievously, and we heard a hard laugh. We turned to see Mr. Nicolas, whose concerns were seemingly replaced by the amusement we provided. What can I say? We are the perfect imperfect ones for the job. In answer, I looked at her with the like-you-are-good-in-calming-people look.

She didn't, however, have time to react as in front of us played an act we hadn't expected to happen. Well...I had my suspicions, but that was way above what I was ready for. Ms. Harper, our headmaster, the person we were most scared of at school, the woman that made us respect her only from her seeing her gaze was kissing Mr. Nicolas!

"What just happened?" I whispered to the girls, who were as startled as I was. Blake shook her head.

"I think they are together?" Paige whispered in response, more of asking. I looked at her with the yeah-I-understood-that expression.

"Do you, by any chance, have your cleats with you?" we suddenly heard a voice. We turned to face our coach, who had a small smile on his face. We looked at each other confused by the sudden change of the topic. Ms. Harper was next to him.

"Always with us," we said, almost automatically, picking up the bags we were keeping our cleats in.
