third person pov~
Everyone watched y/n fell to the fiery floor and they went wide eyed. Immediately, Dallas rushed to the window, running at light speed. His eyes became watery as he hopped through the opening, but he held in his tears. He looked around the Smokey room, the grey fog ruining his vision. His eyes grew even more watery because of the smoke and because he feared not being able to find y/n.
He eagerly looked around, hoping to spot her beautiful face. He looked to the ground which had been ablaze, floor boards missing and the framing revealed underneath. His eyes followed the floor carefully until he finally laid his eyes on her. A wave of relief came washing over him but he couldn't help but feel horrified at what had happened.
She laid there, her eyes closed, her lower body and arms burning underneath fallen rafters, the only thing protecting her was her denim jacket and pants. He stood still for one second before he immediately ran to her side with no hesitation. He desperately kneeled down next to her and tried to conjure a plan to save her.
He got up, then, and rushed to her lower half, which had still been buried underneath debris. He lifted it as best he could and threw it to the side. He took one look at her frail broken legs and his eyes only got more watery. He quickly lifted her off the hot floor and ran through the room, the crackling of the fire only growing louder. The roof nearly caved in before Dallas leapt through the window and rushed over to Johnny and Ponyboy.
They both stood stunned at the sight of her body and watched as Dallas patted out the small bit of fire left on her limbs. Adults and children screamed loudly and scattered around as the roof finally gave in, taking down the whole building along with it. Sirens echoed throughout the green plain as ambulances and fire trucks raced toward the building.
All three boys watched as the firemen sprayed water on the glowing orange flames, the heat waves that radiated from the blaze had ceased. They placed their eyes on y/n as they loaded her up in the ambulance and tended to her burns. Dallas, who barely breathed or blinked, kept his eyes on her at all times, not speaking when the firemen asked him questions.
"Kid!" The fireman yelled. "Hey buddy!" He shouted as he lightly punched Dallas's shoulder. His eyes fluttered as he brought his view from y/n to the fireman. "Huh?" He questioned the fireman. "How'd the fire start?" He asked. "Uhh... I don't know, we just came here and it was already on fire." Dallas answered. The fireman sighed. "You kids are no help." He stated as he walked off.
Dallas rolled his eyes before he looked back to y/n who was lying still and quiet on the stretcher. He sighed as the paramedics shut the back doors to the vehicle and drove off, the sirens once again loud. His head hung low as he sulked, his jaw clenched and his eyes glazed with tears.
"Hey Dal." Johnny greeted him as he walked over to his side, a blanket draped over his shoulders and his face stained with black smoke. "Hey kid." Dallas replied. "You gotta cancer stick?" He asked, looking to Johnny with pleading eyes. Without speaking, Johnny didn't question him and quickly reached for his pockets, pulling out a box of cigarettes. He picked one out and handed it to Dallas who immediately lit it on his necklace.
"Hey listen." Johnny demanded softly, propping his elbows upon his knees as Dallas struggled to light the cigarette. "I've been thinking and uhh..." He trailed off with a sigh. Dallas, finally lighting the cigarette, looked to Johnny intently as he waited for his explanation. "I think I'm gonna turn myself in. I mean... it was an act of self defense and since Cherry Valence is testifying that, then... maybe I could be proven innocent." He explained. Dallas merely sighed before taking a long and relieving drag from his cigarette.
"And before you say anything..." Johnny once again trailed off as he looked to the sky. "I'll be fine, I know I will. Even if I go to jail, I'm sure I'll work it out. And-" He was cut off by Dallas. "You just don't know what jail would do to ya Johnny." Dallas looked to the ground while Johnny looked to him intently. "Just look at me man. You don't wanna end up like me. You're a good kid Johnny, I don't want that changin'." He stated, looking directly into Johnny's dark eyes.
"Hey kid!" A paramedic yelled from across the field. Dallas shot his glance to the man with confusion. "Come here will ya! I need to have a look at your arm!" He demanded as he gestured Dallas over. "Think about it Johnny. Think about it." Dallas ordered as he walked away. Johnny only sighed as he looked to the ground with disappointment.
y/n's pov (and time skip)~
"God I look like one of Steve's failed attempts at making a cake." I complained in a joking manner as I examined my burnt forearm. I was once again in the hospital with just about everyone surrounding me. Two-Bit, Steve, Soda, and Ponyboy all stood to my left while Johnny was to my right. Darry had still been at home, I felt bad because I knew why. I was told Dallas was being taken care of in another room on account of his burnt arm.
Everyone but Steve laughed at my comment. "Im not that bad at making cakes." He argued, an annoyed presence in his voice. I gave out a small laugh as I looked around, the bright lights of the room shining annoyingly in my eyes.
"So what happened exactly?" I asked, looking to Johnny for an answer. "Well..." He trailed off with a sigh, his eyes placed on the floor in thought. "You just... fell." He answered flatly as he looked back up to me. I looked to him as I furrowed my eyebrows with confusion. "Fell?" I questioned him. He merely nodded. "Fell." He repeated. "I guess you just couldn't handle the smoke or something." He said. "Maybe you were tired?" He stated as if a question. "Dally told me you didn't get much sleep the night before." He said as he scratched his head.
I sat in thought for a moment as I once again placed my eyes upon my arm. "Probably both." I said, looking back up to Johnny. He nodded. "Probably." He replied. "Well what happened after that?" I asked. He thought for a moment before responding. "Dally saw you fall and ran over to the window. I tell ya y/n, I've never seen a person run so fast in my entire sixteen years of living." He responded. I tried to my best to hide my flustered face as he said those words. God I loved Dallas.
"He seemed to forget that the whole building was on fire or something because he climbed right through a bunch of flames and stuff. That's how he got his arm all burnt." He continued with a shrug.
"Thankfully, he pulled you outta there right before the whole thing collapsed. Then before you knew it fire trucks and ambulances were already there. They took you away while the rest of us waited and got interviewed and what not. They asked us all what caused the fire, of course we couldn't answer 'em because we didn't know. All we told them was that we went in there and saved all them kids." He finished.
I sat still as I soaked in all of what Johnny had told me, focusing intently on each part of the story. "Is Dallas alright?" I spoke up as I looked around the room. "He's alright." Soda answered. "His forearm is just a bit burnt is all, he'll be fine." Pony cut in. I nodded my head in response. I gave a slight smile as I looked down in thought and focused on the clean white sheets that had been spread across my body.
"He really did that for me huh?" I asked, looking back up to everyone. They all nodded in response. I smiled at the fact that Dallas had saved me, once again showing his sweet side.
"So you and Dally are... datin' now huh?" Two-Bit asked with a smirk. I playfully rolled my eyes at him. "Yeah." I answered. "Pony over here told me." He said, gesturing to Pony. "Sorry." Ponyboy muttered. "It's alright, I kind of wanted y'all to know anyway." I said with a chuckle. "Good to hear." Soda stated with a grin. I smiled at the sight of his bright white teeth that had once again brightened the mood.
"You turning yourself in Johnny?" I asked as I looked to him. "Yeah, I figure I should be fine. Plus, we have no where to hide now." He said with a laugh. I giggled at his humorous comment. "You aren't wrong." I said. "You gonna be able to come to the trial? It's in a few days." Johnny wondered. I shrugged. "Maybe, maybe not. Depends on when I get outta here, got burnt pretty bad." I responded. "Well if ya can make it, I'd be glad to see you there." He said. "I'll try my best Johnny, I'll try my best."
