We sat and smoked for awhile in silence. I looked at Dallas occasionally and admired him. I was glad that he was back and that I could look at him again. He sure was beautiful. His dark eyes, brown droopy hair, somewhat soft lips, whitish smile, everything about him was mesmerizing to me. He looked over to me and smiled, and I smiled back. I sure did love his smile.

"Speaking of movies." Dallas spoke up as he positioned himself towards everyone. Everyone looked to him. "I'm walking to the nightly double tomorrow night. Anyone wanna come hunt some action?" He continued.

The nightly double was a drive in movie theater that I had only been to a couple of times. Matilda and I would always go with Cherry and her soc friends. Though, she only ever invited us when it was only girls, and that was rare. I never met her boyfriend before, at least I hadn't known her boyfriend. I wasn't sure if I had ever seen him before. She sure complains about him a lot though, he always got drunk apparently.

As I was about to answer with "yes", Steve spoke up. "Me and Soda are picking up Evie and Sandy for the game." He replied as he shook his head. I had never met their girlfriends before, they did go out with them a lot though. Occasionally they wouldn't come home after work because they went somewhere last minute with them. Soda sure did love Sandy though. He'd talk about her every chance he got. I wasn't sure about Steve's relationship.

"I'm working tomorrow night." Darry said as he sighed. "Again?" Matilda asked with concern in her voice. He nodded his head. Matilda sighed. Dally looked around to the rest of us. "How bout you guys? Pony, Johnny, Two-Bit? How bout you doll?" Dallas asked as he gestured towards us. "Me and Johnny will come." Pony answered as he looked to Darry for approval. "Sure, it ain't a school night." Darry said. Pony grinned.

"I was planning on getting boozed up tomorrow night." Two-Bit spoke. "But if I don't, I'll walk over and find y'all." He finished. Dally nodded his head as he turned his attention to me. "You gonna come doll?" He asked. "Yeah." I answered happily. He nodded his head as he brought his cigarette to his mouth.

We didn't speak another word and continued smoking silently, hearing occasional whispers from Matilda and Darry. I smiled to myself as I thought about them. It was funny how we all knew that they were in love from the start. They'd smile at each other each and every second of the day. They'd giggle during secret conversations they'd share. They'd stay close each and every day. They were adorable together and I was glad they were having a baby together.

Eventually, we all got up an started walking to the house, still smoking, but walking. As we walked, I looked down at my wrists, they were sore, and slightly swollen. That soc boy had a pretty good grip on me, and me fighting and shaking only made it worse. My right wrist was the worst. When I freed my left hand from his grasp and turned around to punch him, I twisted my right wrist to turn, it hurt. After the attack with my Dad and Bob though, I knew I had experienced worse pain, so I ignored it.

As we got to the house, Soda and Steve sped up the stairs and went through the door. Pony and Johnny slowly walked through the gate and sat down on the porch steps. Darry and Matilda brushed passed them and into the house, along with Two-Bit. I smiled as I walked passed Dallas and ruffled his hair. He quietly chuckled as he followed me into the house.

The rest of the day played out as usual. Cake, poker, watching the television, joking around, and just plain fun. But, Dallas was there. God I loved Dallas. Of course, I could never tell him that. But I may have shown it a little. I smiled at him through the whole day, and when we got the chance, I'd talk to him when we were alone, instead of teasing him all the time. Of course, that was rare. By having the whole gang in the small Curtis house, it was hard to speak alone with Dal, but I tried my best.

The day went by fast and it was fun. I joked around with Two-Bit, talked with Soda about random stuff, destroyed Steve in poker, did dishes with Darry, and talked with him, and smoked and talked on the porch steps with Pony, Johnny, and Dallas. At the end of the day, we all sat still and focused our eyes on the sunset. Admiring every glimmer and shine in the sky. I looked to Dallas, who was playing with his ring. I laughed to myself as I watched him closely pay attention to it. I felt a wave of comfort come over me as I watched him.
