Chapter 13

Alex POV - one week later

"Hey. Where are you off to?" Syd asks me.

"Hey. Going to go see Micah." I reply, adjusting my backpack.

She frowns, "How is she doing?"

"Better. She's ready to get out of the hospital."

She nods, "I bet. Who's with her now?"

I shake my head, "She's been by herself all day. Ash had class, I had class, Haley had to work."

She nods, "That sucks."

"She probably studied or played video games." I say.

She chuckles, "Well, I hope that she can come home soon."

I nod and head to my car.

I get in and finally arrive at the hospital.

I hit her hospital room and the sight makes my heart melt.

Micah is laying in bed, cuddled up with the cutest golden retriever that I've ever seen.

Her head pops up and she smiles while waving.

Look at this dog!

I chuckle and set my stuff down.

Whose dog?

She shrugs.

It's a program at the hospital. His name is Theo.

I walk over and pet Theo then press a kiss against her lips, pulling away.

He's super adorable. This what you've been doing all day?

She shakes her head.

I studied a little then they came around and we've been hanging out ever since.

I smile.

Sounds nice. Did you get up and walk?

She nods.

I took him for a walk around the hospital.

I bob my head up and down.

Did the doctor swing by?

She sighs and nods.

And what did she say?

She stares at me.

Being sick did not help my heart.

I nod.

How bad?

She shrugs.

I really need a new heart.

I bite my lip and pet Theo.

I feel a tap on my forearm and look up.

They were talking about maybe another surgery.

My eyes widen.

Like the last one?

She shakes her head.

Like another open heart surgery.

I shake my head.

What?

She nods.

I don't want to, but doc says it's necessary.

I sigh and grab her hand.

She shakes her head.
