Chapter 6

~Blake~

I'm at home watching TV when my phone rings.

I heave myself up and see that I have a text from an unknown number.

I furrow my eyebrows. Who could it be?

I open the message.

'You want Jacey's number? Here: 860-572-3354'

That was it. No signature, no name. Nothing.

'Who is this?' I reply.

I wait and wait for a reply but never get one.

After about an hour, I can't resist texting Jacey.

'Hey. Guess who!'

After about a minute, I get a reply. I eagerly open the message and read her reply.

'How the hell did you get my number Jake!?'

Jake? Why does she think I'm Jake? Well, might as well play along.

'A little birdie.'

'Don't play with me boy!'

'Where have I heard that before?'

I smirk as I send that.

'BLAKE!'

No crap!

'Haha! Hey.'

'You idiot where'd you get my number from?'

To tell you the truth, I don't know.

'I told you, a little birdie.'

'Damn it Blake! Tell me!'

'Jake'

'And how'd he get it?'

'Idk ask him'

I stare at the text I just sent Jacey. Why did I tell her that Jake gave me her number when he didn't? Now she's going to go to Jake and ask him how he got her number! Damn it. I need to text Jake!

I open a new message and rapidly type.

'Jake! I need you to tell Jacey that you got her number and gave it to me! It's important!'

I get a reply about a second later.

'Y?'

I sigh. 'Bcuz I told her I got her number from you and I told her to ask you where you got it from!'

'WTF MAN?'

'PLZ DUDE.'

After about 5 mins, I get a reply.

'Fine. but on one condition. You give me her number.'

I stare at the text in disbelief. I should have known he would ask for it! But that would mean Jacey falling for Jake even more! But if she finds out I lied then I will never have a chance!

'Fine.' I text him her number.

'Cool, bro. Don't worry about Jacey. I'll handle it.'

I read his reply and sigh in relief.

'Fine.'

I scrunch my eyebrows but then I realize that, that was from Jacey. I smile.

Now...time to figure out who sent me her number...

~Jacey~

The next day at school, I march straight up to Jake, grab his arm, and drag him away.

I can hear his friends whistling and making snarky comments as I drag him away, but I ignore them.
