"Be careful Mel!" Lorelai called out to her daughter who now rushed out the correct door.
"OfcourseI'llbecareful, hey, youknowme!CompletlyandtotallycarefAAAH" Mel yelled as the snowy cliff that she was standing on tumbled off the side of the mountain. Lorelai called out in shock.
"Drop something?" a cold voice asked sarcastically. Lorelai sighed and looked down. A face stared back at her from the snowy rock.
"Gaia," she said. Emily Jane she thought. Emily Jane disappeared from her feet with a gust of wind. Lorelai looked up to see Emily hovering before her in her wind form. Beside her, Melinoe floated, her state of euphoria overcoming any shock from the fall. Slowly, Emily Jane released the little girl from the wind storm that encircled her.
"To what do I owe the pleasure?" Lorelai asked her.
"Pitch is back, figured you ought to know," she said, shifting to her greener form, an aberration in the white snowy mountain. The wind picked up when Emily Jane spoke his name, blowing her wavy green and black hair around her face, the elements around them showing her displeasure at his return.
"Thanks for the effort, but you're a little late to warn me. He already paid a most unpleasant visit, plus I was kidnapped by these folk-" Lorelai gestured to the Guardians who stood just slightly behind her. Emily rested her golden glowering eyes on them, eyes that saw all that happened on earth, eyes that she'd gotten from him. Lightning illuminated the sky like a flash photo.
"Jeez, it's freezing out here!" Bunny protested, shivering.
"Cold?! This is cold to you? Ha! This is mild spring!" North exclaimed.
"Yeah, global warming, it sucks," Emily Jane turned back to Lorelai.
"Lorelai you're-"
"Yup, I know."
"But what if they-"
"They know."
"Even-"
"Yes them too."
"All of-"
"Everything."
"Wait, eve-"
"Not that."
"You're sure?"
"I'm no snitch."
Emily Jane sighed in relief, the wind dying down slightly.
"We're off to go beat him up, d'you wanna come, get a few hits on him?" Lorelai asked. Emily Jane paused, torn between many emotions. The wind whipped back and forth from a million different directions.
"N-No, I don't think that I will," she said. Lorelai nodded in understanding.
"Wait, what?! Why?" Jack asked.
"That's confidential snowman" Emily Jane told him, sharp and quick. The clap of thunder finally rang out.
"Confidential to who?" Tooth asked.
"Me, myself, and I and those that I trust," she said.
"What is it with you bloody spirits hating Pitch and disliking us when we're the ones getting rid of him?" Bunny complained.
"Oh you wanna know why I don't like you all? You're annoying, that's why. For starters, you-" she pointed at Bunny "Are always complaining whenever winter lasts just a little too long. Well guess what?! Climate change is messing with my patterns, I've gotta stick the winter somewhere and better spring than summer, you-" she pointed at North. "Keep coming to me asking for clear nights on Christmas Eve. Well guess what? I want a white Christmas sometimes. You-" she frowned at Tooth. "Are just annoying. Keep your grimy fingers away from my mouth before I bite them off. You-" she looked at Sandy and paused. "Well you, you're fine, you don't talk too much or complain about the weather, but you-" she glared at Jack. "Think you can control the weather, messing with my weather patterns, forecasts, why do you keep making it snow so early, oh, and don't get me started on your demands. Wind take me here, wind take me there, wind carry me halfway across the globe to that one place I went to 200 years ago but can't remember the name of and probably doesn't exist anymore, well I'M DONE!" she finished her rant.
"Anyways, if you know already then I best be going, there's a conference happening discussing the issues of global warming at the U.N and I should make sure that they don't make more stupid decisions. Good to see you and the girls Lorelai, talk to you soon. And get a few punches on him for me." And with that, she vanished.
"What just happened?" Bunny asked.
"Gaia happened, that's what," Lorelai replied.
"Lorelai, why'd you ask her if she wanted to come stop Pitch?" Tooth wondered.
"Because she hates him. Figured she deserved to know, though I'm not surprised she said no."
"Why not?" Jack asked.
"Remember, it's confidential, snowman," she reminded him, repeating what Gaia had said.
"Now, to the north polo we go?"
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
My name is Emily Jane and I am the daughter of someone who is now called Pitch Black. My story is a one from long ago; before Death and Fear existed. Back when there was only Life and the Moon.
Once, I was mortal, and so was my Father. We lived together, in a small mud brick house, just us two as my mother had died when I was very young. We were very happy and we thought we were safe.
I couldn't have been more than seven years of age when I went to play by the river as I always did. It was spring so the banks were flooded with fresh cold water as the stream ran quickly downriver.
Oftentimes my father watched me as the river was quick and I had yet to learn how to swim, but today he was busy and was not paying close enough attention.
I was amusing myself, throwing twigs and such and watching them drift away when I fell in and was swept downstream.
I cried and yelled, but if my father heard me, he did not come and I was swept away from the safety of our home, down the icy stream. Frantically, I reached for something to hold onto before I eventually came across a large log which I frantically scrambled onto.
The river was long and wide and I spent days atop this log, waiting for someone to rescue me, crying under the moonlight.
I know not if I died then, or later, but sometime in between I had changed. My skin and hair turned green. I could manipulate the elements. Animals spoke to me. I could change my form. I could become the earth beneath people's feet, or the wind in the trees.
I aged a few years, but I seemed to have stopped. I believe myself to be about 14, but I am uncertain. Then, one day I left my island in search of my father. I traveled far and wide, but I did not find him for many years. When I did, I saw him, surrounded by others, with another for a wife. I confronted him later that night, but if he recognized me, he did not show it. I left and it rained for weeks after. If I hadn't been so furious, I might have noticed how different he looked. I might have seen how he terrorized that younger soldiers. I might have realized that my father had been buried deep beneath.
I, grudgingly, helped Lorelai some years later, under orders of the moon. It wasn't until many years later, after Pitch Black had vanished and the Ancient Ones were gone that we fully spoke and I learned of what had happened to my father. Since then, we have grown closer, our relationship is something in between sisters, friends and mother and daughter.
After I learned the truth, I left, and I found him and I buried him deep down, in a jail beneath your feet where he rested for some thousand years. He tricked me, once, acting as if he recognized me, so he escaped and I have yet to catch him again. But I now know, there is nothing of my father left.
So now you know my story, you may understand my choice to not meet my father, to remain 'neutral'. What comes will come, and only Karma can truly change it.
But not I.
For I am Emily Jane. Daughter of Pitch Black.
