"Whoa." North said.
"Uh-huh." Lorelai replied.
"So you were married to Pitch, then betrayed him to help us, the moon told you to kill him, and you didn't?" Bunny summarized.
"Yup." Lorelai replied.
"Why not?" he asked.
"Bunny!" Tooth exclaimed.
"She could've killed him, we all know she can, she kills literally everyone, but not the wickedest monster on the planet. How can we trust her now?" he replied, looking Lorelai up and down, trying to see if she was showing her rare emotions, though his attempts were fruitless, Lorelai's face was a stone wall.
"You trusted me before?" she asked sarcastically.
"Well, er no. But now we'll never trust you." he replied.
"Does it look like I care if you trust me?" she took a step towards the large rabbit. Jack groaned inside. North pole round two: Bunny pisses off an extremely powerful being whose help we desperately need. Will he piss her off enough that she snaps or will we continue on our mission with more unnecessary tension? Let us find out! he thought.
"No, it doesn't. But that's how you work. I've learnt something about you in the short amount of time that I've known you. You make people think that you're one thing, when you are really another. You've learned how to hide yourself, how to not let people see you truly. I even wonder if what you show when you do slip up, is it real or another defense system? You build up your walls to keep you safe and hate when people climb over them, because you're WEAK! You're scared." he put a paw to her chest, pushing her back.
"You think you have me all figured out, that you know more than those who've known me for centuries. Your arrogance shows in that. I am the most complex person you will ever find. No one truly understands me. Don't pretend that you do." she stared back at him.
"Admit it, admit that you're scared of Pitch." Bunny exclaimed.
"I'll admit it. Pitch is one of the oldest and most powerful creatures in the world, I'd be a fool not to be wary of such power. But you're wrong if you think that makes me weak. I do not cower in that fear, I do not let it drag me down. I fight it. I take note of it, take caution and that keeps me alive. I do not cower in a corner, or run blind into battle, I plan and I fight. I am not weak." Lorelai spoke clearly so everyone heard every word as the torches lighting the room flared brighter from Lorelai's anger.
Lorelai felt something inside her, almost like a shock of electricity had gone through her. She gasped in shock. She somehow internally knew what this was.
"Lorelai, are you okay?" Min asked, concerned.
"How many Reapers do we have out right now?" she asked.
"I don't know, we lost some in Pitch's attack, a lot are injured and I think the rest are outside watching the people. Maybe thirty or so, who haven't gotten back yet? Why?" Min replied.
"The death count!" Asha exclaimed quietly.
"What about the death- OH MY SCYTHE, THE DEATH COUNT!" Min realized.
"The what now?" Bunny asked confused.
"The death count, the number of people dying, it will be going down without anyone killing them." Min said.
"What happens then? That sounds like a good thing." Tooth said.
"People suffer, they keep drowning for longer, keep bleeding, keep choking, miraculously still alive, but in horrid pain. And then, pretty soon I'll-" she didn't have time to finish her sentence before disappearing out of thin air.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Lorelai reappeared submerged in water, her scythe already raised. Just in front of her, she spotted a child, no older than four, black hair covering his face as he struggled to swim to the surface. In one quick swipe, she sliced the blade against his chest, separating soul from body. Panicking, she grabbed the hand of the boy's spirit nanoseconds before returning to the underworld.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The guardians watched, shocked as the Grim Reaper reappeared just seconds after she'd disappeared, soaking wet with a child in her arms. The boy wriggled out of her arms before wandering off somewhere.
Jack stared, Lorelai's face was paler than ever, her eyes were wide and her entire face screamed of panic.
"Lorelai! What has happened?" North cried.
She didn't respond, just looked to her Reapers.
"Put everyone we possibly can on duty. Tell them no dilly dally, just get the soul, get back here and then go out again. I'll go talk to everyone, get the citizens to explain to the new souls what they just went through, make patrols, probably make hire new Reapers." she told them.
Asha nodded but Min spoke up. "The ancient ones could be of some help." she said.
Lorelai sighed. "I know, I'd rather not disturb them, but I think I'll have to. I already kind of did. Min, stick around, they'll probably listen to you more than me."
"What? What's an ancient one?" Bunny asked.
No one answered him as Lorelai moved to the center of the room before calling out "My warriors, I summon ye.".
The blue torches flickered, the entire room seemed to shake as whispers filled the air. From the wall in front of Lorelai, a tall transparent blue woman emerged.
"Lorelai Azrael." she spoke. "You summoned me?"
"Hello Elizabella, indeed I did. Although I do believe I summoned all my warriors." Lorelai replied.
"Yes, well, the others refused to answer to you after what you have done. They sent me to give you their message." Elizabella answered.
"And what is that?" Lorelai asked her.
"That we will not give aid to one who kept us locked inside her castle walls only to summon us in her times of need." Elizabella stared at her sharply before turning around as if to leave.
"What?" Lorelai whispered to herself
"Then why would you respond to the Queen's call from before?" Min asked the spirit. Elizabella froze in midair.
"Hello sister. We did not answer your Queen's call, we answered yours." she responded, turning to look at Min.
Hi!!!!! I got busy and couldn't post for a while, sorry but I'm going to try and keep posting again. Also I finished the guardians books, they're really good and I suggest you read them, you get a lot of background information on the Guardians, and Pitch. I'll be incorporating some things from the books in the rest of this story, but most of this will be my own storyline. I'm thinking about starting on another fanfiction, based more on the books. Would you be interested in reading that? Have a great day/night!
