Sloan watched the passerby, seated alone on a chair in lonely Romania. His eyes were covered by dark lenses, allowing his eyes to stare without notice. A figure sits beside him, wearing a plain sweater and dark-washed jeans. His features were covered by a hat, hiding the majority of his face.
"How'd you find me?"
Sloan doesn't turn to acknowledge him, still people-watching, ensuring no one pays any attention to them. "I never lost you." Sloan answers simply, lifting a coffee cup and taking a drink, his dark eyes side-eyeing the soldier, keeping his gaze forward while trying to see under the hat, but Bucky kept his head down.
"What do you want." Bucky asks
"So you truly don't remember me? Do you?" Sloan asks
Bucky finally looks up. His face was in a light stubble, sharpening his features. His bright blue eyes were a bright contrast to his tired face. "No, I'm sorry." Bucky states
Sloan hums, still not facing Bucky. "Truly." Sloan mumbles "I find that hard to believe-"
Before Sloan can say anything, Bucky cuts him off. "I saw you on Sokovia, fighting those things....I thought you died." Bucky says
Sloan finally turns. "Let me treat you to some coffee." Sloan states instead of answering. Bucky swallows harshly, " You have a coffee." Bucky says
"So I do...I can go for another. Come on, it's free." Sloan says as he stands. Bucky watches him with wide eyes before looking around. "This is a trap?" Bucky asks, earning a chuckle and an eye roll. "I'm a mutant Barnes, if I wanted to trap you, I wouldn't play games. I can do it with a flick of a brow." Sloan says with a small smirk.
....
The two men sat at a small coffee shop under a shade, both with coffees in front of them.
"Were you always a mutant?" Bucky asks, watching as Sloan taps a finger on the glass table. Sloan's eyes flicker to Buckys. "Yes, well I was born a mutant but my abilities didn't start manifesting until after my mother died. But I was born a mutant." Sloan says
Bucky hums, only to sigh and sit up. "Why did you want to talk, I know you don't want me to come with you or you would've done that already." Bucky says, his hackles were raised. He had just left New York and managed to start something in Romania, he was even camped out at an abandoned apartment. He didn't need anyone following him.
"What if that is why I am here? But unlike my brother or the US government, I won't force you to my side.....You might not remember our history but I do." Sloan says, his eyes searching Bucky's face.
The soldier looked away, swallowing harshly. "I know that I was in love with you." Bucky suddenly says, looking up and allowing his eyes to hold Sloans. "I-I read it in the journal that you gave me. I read every word front and back, trying to grasp some semblance of my thoughts and my personality. But all of it was about you....how you looked, how smiled....how you smelled. I know more about you than about myself. I know that in the 1930s you smelt like maple, rain, and crayons...crayons? I found out on the next page you were a kindergarten teacher who loved the rain and pancakes every morning. I know that you smiled a little crooked but your teeth were perfect. I had described the way you kissed, the way you tasted. I knew every little detail about you and none about myself. All of this was what I had gotten from a book." Bucky says, his face pulling a small frown, his eyebrows furrowing. "I couldn't get myself to remember...you were such a large portion of my life, I was in love with you....crazy about you but I can't remember it."
Sloan looked down, "I didn't give you that book to torture you. It's a part of your history, our history and I thought if you remembered me, you can remember it all....but if you come with me....I can tell you everything....because you weren't the only one in love...." Sloan admits, looking back up.
Their eyes were focused on one another, two people so lost and broken. Soulmates torn apart only to be forced back together. "I-I" Bucky starts
"I called you James...I was the only one who did and that's how you preferred it. You hated anyone calling you James because it was meant for me....You were always Bucky. I always teased you about it, but you didn't care, because you liked being my James...You smelt like a campfire, smoky and warm. You worked part-time at Goldie's boxing gym where you helped train Steve....he was tiny and you thought with your help you could help him. You tasted like candy....you loved twister candy, it's all you ate." Sloan says with a small smile, a smile he kept for a moment before it went away as he looked up.
"I can help you, James, if you let me. And it doesn't have to mean anything, I am a billionaire I can throw money at it." Sloan says
Bucky looked down at his gloved hands, his fingers curling inward. "Give me time.....please." Bucky says
Sloan leans back, "You have all the time in the world."
