Lorelei's POV:

My phone beeps with an incoming text.

I got him.

- Klaus

As much as I wanna join them in this family reunion I'm starving. I make my way into the Bayou for something to eat.

I stare out into the night. There's movement in the bushes and I scan the area quickly. I inhale.

Rabbit.

I place my nose to the ground and sniff as I walk. There's an array of scents of animals.

Mice, turkeys, birds...

I take off on all four legs in a trot and start gaining speed as I run. I jump over a fallen tree and turn to the right then down an embankment.

A howl rips through the air and I skid to a halt and freeze, tracking the sound through the air.

My ears swivel as I hear the sounds of twigs snapping. My fur stands on end and I crouch low. I catch the unmistakable scent of a vampire near me.

Without hesitation I take off after it.

As I make my way out of the bayou I move towards the tree where I'd dumped my clothing on the edge of the woods but still out of view from any possible humans. Before I turn I always do a quick look around the area. I'll compel people away if I need to but for the most part, they take off running.

Every so often there's a person stupid enough to try and fight what they assume is just an average wolf. Most of the time a simple growl or baring of teeth sends them packing.

I need blood so I head into the heart of the city, New Orleans. I scan the crowd of people. Witches heading toward the cemetery. Vampires stalking the touring humans like hawks, waiting for the moment to strike.

I spot a man walking towards his car parked a few yards away. He's by himself staring down at his phone unaware that he's being watched.

I feel the sensation that I too am being watched and I turn and look across the street. There's a group of women watching me intently. They all look to be in their mid twenties.

I start to make my way towards the alley.

I know I could compel them all but I'd really rather be at home right about now.

I'm exhausted.

Regardless of how I'm feeling, I need fresh blood so I don't desiccate.

I sigh and make my way down a different street, changing directions and prey so I can hopefully avoid an audience. I'm really not in the mood for company. I barely have enough energy to keep myself standing right now.
