Lorelei's POV:

Freya and I take off through the woods towards the barn. I sprint as fast as I can go, my lungs burning as I carry Freya on my back so we can move at full speed.

It's time to get Hayley and these kids back. I can't stop thinking about what one of the missing witches' mothers had said.

Flashback:

Freya and I were walking down the street on yet another round of searching now that Shawn had been spotted. It wasn't long until The parents of the missing kids were gathered in the street,
Cutting us off from being able to go anywhere. I tense up as they start to gather closer.

"Do not tell them." Freya tells me

I give her a confused look.

"We're on our way to rescue everyone but if emotional parents get in the way, it could cause fatalities." She whispers

One of the women's steps forward and I recognize her immediately.

Arlene Devans.

Her son Jamie had gone missing a few weeks earlier. He was one of the first few to vanish. Freya had promised her that she would do everything in her power to reunite Arlene with her son. Lately it just feels like we failed her but now we have a bit of hope.

I hate to admit it but Freya has a point.

"Have you made any progress so far?" Arlene asks

Her eyes are filled with pain and rage.

I can't imagine what she's feeling.

"We're doing everything we can Arlene." Freya says, trying to reassure her

"Just tell me Freya. Is my baby dead?" She demands

She's visibly shaking.

I stare at the faces of grieving parents. An array of emotions: anger, sadness, desperation. Arlene's eyes fill with angry tears.

"You promised us Freya!"

We don't have time for this.

I shoot Freya a pointed look.

I walk over to her and she raises her hand. We take off quickly, Freya's spell cloaking us, covering our tracks.

I stopped when we were about a mile away from the barn. Nik and Elijah joined us quickly after Freya sent him a text. Nik needed to make sure Rebekah, Marcel and Hope were okay. It wasn't long until we came up with a plan.

First, Freya astroprojected into the barn to make sure the missing kids were in there. From what she shared, they were all lying on the hay scattered floor, surrounded in a circle of salt, unconscious and motionless but breathing.

Elijah and Nik would focus on getting Hayley and taking care of Shawn.

Freya would focus on unlinking Shawn from everyone else. She had everything she needed since Nik grabbed it before he left the city. She gets to work immediately.

Everything was going to plan until a piercing scream ripped through the air, only a sound that supernaturals can hear. I feel my blood turn to ice.
