Klaus's POV:
I pace back and forth in the study. Everyone else was busy feeding or getting supplies. Elijah stands beside the table where Freya's map lie. She'd had no luck searching for Shawn.
"Brother you need to try and think back. We need to come up with some sort of strategy."
"Elijah you know as well as I do that at some point...the memories, they just blend together."
"Close your eyes and concentrate."
I sigh and close my eyes.
Focus.
Flashback:
I move through the hallway of the town hall. The glass from the broken windows crunches under my feet. The wooden floor is covered in blood and the bodies of Shawn's victims. Men. Women. Kids.
They lie in heaps or scattered about in pieces.
Killed in a black magic fueled rage.
A handful of them have stained faces coated in blood from where it oozed out of their bodies.
He's lost his bloody mind.
I move into one of the rooms and see him standing over another corpse.
He turns and grins when he sees me. As he raises his hand, I snatch a ruler and launch it right at the point where his hand and wrist connect, slicing it. He screams as his now worthless appendage falls to the ground with a small thud.
I do nothing to conceal the murderous intent in my eyes. He moves backwards as I make my way closer to him.
"You can't do this Klaus!"
"You left me with no alternative mate."
He opens his mouth to cast another spell. I move swiftly and swing my arm with as much strength as I can muster.
His head now detached from his body is flung across the room, landing a mere few feet away from one of his latest kills. The now headless corpse falls to the hardwood, blood gushing from the stump.
Not the least bit helpful.
What move could he be making?
He has no friends, family or any connections in the world since he's arrived.
Flashback:
I knock on the door to Shawn's two story house. I hear movement upstairs, the shuffling of footsteps and I open the door. I move to go in and hit a barrier.
I haven't been invited in.
The most ludicrous part of vampirism. A vampire can only enter a building owned by a living person if they've been invited. For normal vampires, crossing the threshold means death. For Originals, it is a very unpleasant experience we prefer to avoid.
"Shawn are you here?" I ask after knocking again
The movement stops.
The heartbeat quickens.
I hear the sounds of footsteps moving down the stairs and the door opens.
I'm shocked when I see him.
He looks like he's come down with the plague since the last time I saw him which doesn't make sense since I saw him a mere three hours ago. He looks like he hasn't slept in days and his eyes are bloodshot. He looks this way and that and he's a bit shaky.
"Shawn what the hell happened?"
"Nothing. I-I'm fine." He says as his eyes continue to dart back and forth
He turns and walks back into the house. When I don't follow him, he turns.
"Come in."
He stands there silently as I take the room in. Every surface is covered in papers and journals. There are drawings taped to the walls of plants and ingredients.
What is he up to?
"What did you do?" I demand
His eyes meet mine for the first time since my arrival. They're cloudy. Like he isn't all there.
"This is useless. We are waiting time." I say
"Nikklaus please-" Elijah begins
I wave him off and head to the study.
I need to figure this out alone.
Shawn was a loner, not unlike me. He also had a thirst for power. Not a lot of witches could handle the complex black magic spells he got into. I'd introduced him to some of the spells in my family's library. His hunger for knowledge grew and I believed with him as my secret weapon, I could take over the city for my family. Instead, he went mad.
I pace back and forth wondering what our next move should be.
