Chapter 80: Trouble III

Going through the door, Norman was wondering where he would end up and hoped Xavier and Kathy would be there on the other side with him and Owen. However, what he didn't expect, was for the sun to be completely up and shining its warm rays on his face which made him to wince and shut his eyes.
"Kenzie is my nose tricking me?" Nathan asked as he stared at Norman and Owen
"No dad, those two really are human" Mackenzie said with her glowing yellow eyes "Their presence is that of a human and they completely lack magic circuits"
"How did two humans enter the southern forest and get all the way to the spirit world gate?" Alexa asked and at that time, Norman and Owen's eyes also adjusted to the sun's rays and opened their eyes to fully take in the view
Norman and Owen noticed the number of people who were looking at the two of them and began to panic. They both took a step back and Dante grabbed the two of them from behind.
"Are you two trying to run?" Dante asked and the two men looked back
"Priya, you know everyone in Greenwood Springs, right?" Timothy asked
"The eatery I worked at, was visited by everyone in Greenwood" Priya said "You meet new people easily and everyone knows everyone"
"Then, can you identify these two?" Dante asked and she nodded
"I can try" Priya said
"Oy. You two...look at her" Dante said and Norman along with Owen turned to look at Priya. Although Priya looked different, there was only one other person who could match her appearance and that was her mother. However, just like Priya had said, everyone knows everyone in Greenwood Springs which is also how Norman knew that her mother was dead and only Priya had a resemblance to her mother.
"I know you" Norman said
"Same here" Priya said "Detective Norman and Officer Owen"
"Priya Rodik?" Owen said "Your boss came to file a missing persons report after you disappeared. Your parents didn't even care whether you were dead or alive when questioned on what had happened to you and your step siblings only wanted the pay you made that day"
"You're the one human that the soldier was talking about?" Norman asked before staring at Nathan "And you're that guy from that time with the case of Scott Connor and the rest who died on a camping trip. You told me you lived nearby with your mother. So you're the Prince Nathan they were talking about"
"Brother, do you remember?" Natasha asked and Nathan thought about it
"I remember there was a guy asking me some questions the night I found Sloane" Nathan said "But more importantly, you said a solider. Why would any of my men give a human information about me? And how did you even get here?"
"T-that's a long story" Owen said
"Then start the damn story. You're keeping us in suspense" Jerald said
"Well, I guess you could say it was out of my own personal curiosity that got me and Detective Norman here" Owen started "But, I stumbled across all of Sloane Michelle's case file and found it strange as to how only she had survived three times from wolf attacks. So, I informed the detective and we went to the Connor family residence because when I went to the university, they said she hadn't attended lectures in three days"
"We met a very beautiful woman at the door of the house and she had pink eyes. She said she had come in from the next town to speak with the already dead Connor family because she thought they were still alive" Norman said
"Go back a sec. Did you just say the woman had pink eyes?" Dante asked
"Well, yes" Norman said "She told us they were contacts"
"No wonder you suspected nothing...you're idiots" Zoe said
"Pink contact lens actually exists. It's only if her eyes were glowing that you can call them idiots" Dante said "Continue"
"The woman said her name was Kathy and she had a house in town. She also said she was friends with the Connors" Owen said "She had a house key and when she heard that all of the Connors were dead, she froze and was in denial. Even after we entered the house and realised that nobody was there, she was still staring at the pictures and everything in the house like something good would happen. She said a lot of things that I can't remember but I do remember she said she had come to take Sloane when she was twelve but Laura Connor had said she'd only teach Sloane her bad habits if she was to become Sloane's guardian like she had promised Reese, Sloane's father"
"She acted so weird we began to follow her around town. And at some point, she suddenly just stood on the street and started crying. I believe the fact that her friends were gone had finally hit her hard" Norman said "She stopped crying and headed to City Hall where she didn't come out until eleven at night. But during the time she was there, the southern and eastern forests were on fire and everyone in town had to observe a temporary lockdown by order of the mayor"
"Our homes are on fire?" Brianna asked "We have to head back now"
"Wait a second" Allen said "If the south were still on fire, how would these two have gotten here?"
"Well, after Miss Kathy came out, there was a very large man with her. I think she called him Xavier but the only Xavier in City Hall, is Xavier Grey" Owen said "They got into a car and headed towards the South. Naturally, we followed them and when they entered the forest, we did the same and what we saw was..." his voice suddenly trailed
"What did you see?" Alexa asked
"I don't even know how to put it into words but there was a large war going on. Several people were dying, body parts were flying and those two just watched and then, some guy, I think his name was Henry, got beaten pretty badly and that guy named Xavier...turned into a fox on two legs with two freaking tails and as soon as he got involved in the war, those attacking the South began to shout 'retreat' but were all wipe out in an instance" Norman blabbered "Kathy started asking about some woman... Lou..Lou something but they said the woman died protecting children"
"Louisa is dead?" Fernanda said
"She died at the school is what it means if she were protecting children" Cassandra said
"Then Xavier started asking about Nathan and the soldiers said you left for the spirit world with a small group around six in the morning. I can't remember how he defined the small group but what stuck out to me was the fact they mentioned a human" Owen said while glancing at Priya "Xavier said he set a barrier around the South, East, West and Greenwood Springs before they started walking and we continued following them until we were near some shabby looking house. Then, they just sat on a log and started talking and Kathy said she was the mother of Elias Connor and had abandoned him with Deputy Connor when her husband, Deputy Connor's brother, died"
"They asked us what the time was before crushing our phones and telling us to wait for them at the front of the shabby house. But who the hell would wait for them when a war is going on that we're not even meant to be involved in?" Norman said
"So you followed them here?" Fernanda asked
"Who wouldn't?" Owen and Norman asked at the same time
"Oh no" Dante said
"Oh. And they kept on saying they have business with the Princess or something" Owen said when a thought came to Rielle's mind
"Kathy...can you...you know what, forget it" Rielle said as she got up from her seat and placed her hand on Norman's head "I'll check for myself. Then I'll implant new memories later...that way you two can get back to living your normal lives"
"With everything I've seen today, I don't mind my memories getting erased" Owen said
"Fine by me" Norman said "I think I was better off not knowing" just as he said that, several screens appeared beside his head and Rielle's face became grave
"Of all the demons and devils to escape from the cells here, why did it have to be this one?" Rielle asked
"What's wrong?" Nathan asked
"The demon known as Kathy is a high ranking devil that was put away in our underground dungeon" Dante said "As a succubus, her powers are only meant to be limited to men but Kathy is different because even women are affected. Her healing abilities are top notch, she's smart and capable in battle. Worst of all, she was a tough enemy to take down due to her magic control"
"What did she do to end up in a cell?" Josey asked
"High ranking devils aren't allowed in the spirit world. She was trespassing and I...tried to stop her and then, she almost killed me" Zoe said fearfully "Luckily, Dante got there in time and she ended up in the underground dungeon. To think she escaped"
"Out of all of the devils and demons locked up here, Kathy is by far the strongest and at the time she came here, she hadn't attacked anyone but did cause a commotion" Tory said "If I recall correctly, she said it was all a misunderstanding. But that misunderstanding almost killed Zoe so we're quite careful"
"To think there is another like her who's even stronger, and has infiltrated the spirit world searching for Sloane, there is a huge problem" Tilly said and she noticed that Priya was already trying to open the door to the Beginning And End Library "Another thing that worries me is Sloane herself" she said and Priya paused "You've been acting a bit weird, Priya. And a year ago, you started heading back earlier than usual to meet with Sloane. Even now, you're panicking and trying to head back" as soon as she said that, everyone noticed Priya was actually trying to leave
"Priya, what's wrong with Sloane?" Virginia asked and Priya shook her head
"I can't tell you" Priya said as she tried to open the door to the Beginning And End Library but the door wouldn't budge "Why won't it open?"
"Huh?" Rielle let out as she took her hand off Norman's head "What do you mean by it won't open? Nobody here can stop that door from opening...not even the Spirit King. Priya, what is going on?"
"I can't leave Sloane's side" Priya said as she put the key away "As you all know, two years ago, the Spirit King called back spirits that were in the human world, here to keep watch over me, Mackenzie and Sloane. But the main reason they were called back was for Sloane"
"What are you talking about? You're not making any sense" Nathan said
"Sloane has been undergoing spirit training under the third strongest spirit which was assigned to her by the Spirit King. During that time, we realized that Sloane couldn't have any interactions with demons of any kind as it would spoil the progress the spirits had made in stabilizing her spirit seed" Priya explained "There was a time limit set as to how long this would continue and that was these two years where Sloane's spirit seed will be reaching the final stages in merging with her demon bloodlines to form a new species of demon called the Purified"
"Purified?" Mary repeated
"They were a type of demon race that once existed in the demon world but were wiped out by Prince Of Hell, Belphegor, because he claimed they were a dangerous species just because they were capable of using both light and dark magic, up to the point where the purified could mix both magic types together to form a grey zone" Priya said
"How do you even know this?" Kayden asked
"Demon history and the tales of the Spirit King's adventures are like interesting novels in that library" Priya said and Timothy shook his head
"Continue" Clark said
"Anyways, the other demons were neither with or against the existence of the Purified and there was a certain bloodline that still had the purified demons blood running through their veins although the bloodline was weak. It was that same bloodline the Spirit King had gifted the spirit seed to because only that bloodline could withstand the drawbacks and use it fluently despite being born in the darkness" Priya said
"The Michelles" Dante mumbled
"Anyways, Sloane was to stay away from demons until the Spirit King found a high ranking devil who could perform the ritual for the stabilization of Sloane's demon bloodlines" Priya said "The only demons who knew how to, was the Connor family who closely served the Michelles. So the spirits felt relief when they found out Mackenzie was a Connor however..."
"Mackenzie can't use the spell" Allen said
"The third strongest spirit figured that Mackenzie wasn't taught because she was still too young. In summary, if those two demons have contact with Sloane while not knowing the ritual, she will perish" Priya sighed "Now can you see why I need to get back to the library?"
