"Do you think it's enough? I've had only one big wish since elemetary school but a lot of smaller ones too."
"Sweetheart, eight is more than enough, trust me," Can says quickly, hooking the last piece of paper to the line. "Please no more for today, if you wish too much it beats the meditation of the exercise. There's no space left anyway," he shrugs.
"Well okay," Sanem gives in and then smiles eagerly. "Can we do it together?"
"Sure," he grins and goes to stand behind her. She smiles at him over her shoulder and he chuckles, bringing the line round to the front over her head and handing her the end. She takes it and he stays there for a second, his arms around her.
"Close your eyes."
"Okay." Sanem closes her eyes.
"Take a deep breath." She does. "Feel your desires come to life in the same sequence that you wrote them." He waits a moment then asks, "Okay, you ready?"
"I'm ready," she says after taking another breath and nodding.
He kisses her cheek and then stands away from her to go to her side. "Okay. Open your eyes. One - "
"One."
"Two - "
"Two."
"Throw it in," he instructs and Sanem tosses the line she was holding into the water. The pieces of paper float on the surface for a bit then start to sink.
"So, the fish will eat these and make the wishes come true right?"
"Exactly," Can looks down at her and she stares at the water in awe, her eyes shining.
She brings her thumb up to her lips and prays silently that it would be so. "And when do we bring the line back to check?" she asks curiously.
"You have to listen to your heart. It will tell you when it's time."
"Oh okay," Sanem nods and folds her arms. "I will concentrate on that." She stands for a couple of minutes with her eyes closed and then, rather impatiently, she taps his arm and says, "Now."
"Really? Already?"
Sanem hops on the spot and nods, grinning. Can shakes his head but starts pulling in the line back in.
It comes out clear of any paper and Sanem stares in shock. "No!" she breathes. "It's really all gone! How?!"
"I told you." Can shrugs, inspecting the line. "And look, they were so eager to make them come true for you, they even chomped away at the line a bit," he shows her.
"Can..." Sanem covers her mouth with both hands, her eyes wide. "Does it mean they'll all come true?" She squeals lightly and turns to throw her arms around him.
Can chuckles and nods against her. Most definitely. Most of them are yours so why not? "Can I ask you something?"
She stands back and tilts her head in question, pushing her hair out of her eyes.
"What else did you wish for besides your parents' reconciliation?"
"Oh no, Mr Can," she wags a finger and puts her hands on her hips, shaking her head, "I am not telling you."
"You're going to start keeping secrets from me now?" he asks jokingly.
"Why did you ask?" she retorts.
"Well, if your wishes come true, then so will mine." That's my biggest wish - for your dreams to be fulfilled my love...And if I can help make that happen? Why not?
