Chapter 28: Work Event

No One's POV

Y/n and Law rush to get ready as Bepo frantically runs from one room to another, trying to help his Miss and Captain.

"Law NO! You CANNOT bring your Kikoku TO THE PARTY!" Y/n protested as Law crossed his arms disapprovingly like an irritated teenager not getting his way.

"It's for protection Y/n, and it's not like I'll unsheathe the sword just because of a little mishap. I'll only use it if we're in danger." Law had his sword ready on his shoulder as if he was about to go into a battle

Y/n sighed, "At least it matches our outfits. fine, but if anyone asks, just say you have a sword-fighting event later or you brought a prop from your acting gig or something! I have never seen someone carry a sword around just for the hell of it, so just use a logical excuse, please." Y/n begged

"Of course, beautiful." Law kissed Y/n's forehead as he walked off triumphantly with his Kikoku. "Damn it. So he compliments me as soon as he gets what he wants." Y/n blushed as she clutched her purse

As they were about to leave, Y/n was talking to Bepo to calm her unrelenting nerves as Bepo reassured and pumped her up. "You'll knock 'em dead Miss Y/n!"

Y/n smiled. "Suuure, I will, Bepo. But you make sure to be safe here while you're home alone, okay? I don't know how long Law and I will be at that party."

"Don't worry about a thing, Captain, Miss Y/n. I'll keep a sharp eye out!"

Y/n patted Bepo's arm, not reaching the top of his head, and smiled with her eyes closed. "Okay then, off we go!" Y/n linked arms with Law as they walked to the car.

Law's POV

Y/n pulled me along to the car, but from her grip, I knew that she was nervous. She was tense.

"Are you alright, Y/n?" I stroked her hair in an attempt to comfort her.

"I'm fine Law Just a little bit nervous, you know, especially because Mr. Akainu's there. Heh, I know he's the host and all, but... he just makes me so... uneasy."

I opened the door to the car and let her in, "and that's why you have me here with you. I'll protect you."

Her uneasiness calmed a little as I closed the car door to go to the driver's side.

It was a mostly quiet ride to the event, with small jokes and comments made by her along the way as I listened.

It was a large event center. Nice gardens, ballroom-sized interior. It was nice till I saw the douchebag that was Y/n's boss smack dab in the center of my view.

That smug bastard was looking at Y/n exactly how Doflamingo would look at things that would elevate his power. Like a damn freak.

A wide smile plastered on his face as he confidently approached Y/n and me. As the bastard approached, I held my Kikoku tighter.

"Good evening, Miss. Y/n and friend." His smug smirk made me want to really cut his head off.

"Oh, um, Mr. Akainu, good evening to you too. Please excuse us. We'll just get a drink over there." Y/n spoke quietly. In a way to somehow hide herself and make herself smaller to not be noticed by this monkey, she calls her boss.

"Why you're excused, dear. Did you want me to come with you?" The dipshit put out his hand as to gesture to Y/n to take it. He had this sick grin on his face like he was so entertained by Y/n's reactions.

Y/n looked at his hand with a nervous stare and then looked at her boss's face to see if he was genuine or not. But it was obvious from her face alone that she was in a bind, my girl was uncomfortable.

"Yeah, I'll go with you. Let's get some drinks." I said as I protectively held Y/n's hand and pulled her closer to me. I felt her shoulders relax in my presence. I could also feel the unhappiness of her boss from the way he stared at the back of my head as we speed walked through the crowd to the drinks.

"Thanks, Law." She said softly as she handed me a drink.

No One's POV

As Y/n and Law stood near the bar, trying to distance themselves from the unwanted advances of Mr. Akainu, tension hung in the air. Y/n clutched her drink tightly, her eyes darting around the room, searching for an escape route.

But Mr. Akainu was persistent. He approached them once again, a smug smirk on his face. "Y/n, darling, I must say you're looking exquisite tonight. Are you enjoying the party?"

Y/n forced a polite smile, trying to maintain her composure. "Thank you, Mr. Akainu. The party is lovely. Excuse us for a moment, we need to catch up with some friends."

Before they could make their escape, Mr. Akainu reached out, his hand grazing Y/n's arm in a way that made her skin crawl. "Y/n, my dear, I think it's time we had a private conversation. I have something important to discuss with you."

Y/n's eyes widened in alarm, and she instinctively pulled away, her voice firm and resolute. "No, Mr. Akainu, I don't think that's necessary. I'm here to enjoy the party and spend time with my significant other."

Law's grip on his drink tightened, his eyes burning with a fierce protectiveness. "She said no, Akainu. I suggest you respect her wishes."

Mr. Akainu's smug smile faltered for a moment as he glanced at Law, his eyes filled with a mixture of irritation and arrogance. "Ah, Law, was it? Always the overprotective type, aren't you? But remember, she's my employee, and I can do whatever I please."

Law's voice dropped to a dangerous low as he took a step forward, his eyes locked with Mr. Akainu's. "I suggest you tread carefully, Akainu. Y/n is under my care, and I won't hesitate to protect her from any harm."

A hushed silence fell over the surrounding area as people around them began to take notice of the escalating tension. Y/n stood beside Law, her heart pounding in her chest, she didn't want Law to get aggressive but nonetheless she was grateful for his unwavering support.

Mr. Akainu's expression hardened, his eyes narrowing as he assessed the situation. With a curt nod, he backed away, his voice dripping with disdain. "Very well, Law. But mark my words, this isn't over."

As Mr. Akainu walked away, Y/n let out a shaky breath, her body trembling with a mix of relief and lingering fear. She turned to Law, her eyes filled with gratitude and admiration. "Thank you, Law. I don't know what I would have done without you."

Law gently cupped her face, his touch soothing and comforting. "Y/n, I'll always be here for you, protecting you from anyone who tries to harm you. You're not alone in this. Not anymore."

With a sense of newfound strength, Y/n leaned into Law's touch, her heart filled with a mix of love and gratitude. She knew that with him by her side, she could face any challenge that came her way because she wasn't alone anymore.
