The Decembers

Chapter 16

    It's nighttime and my brother and I were already laying down. I kept hearing West moving around a lot in his bed. Whenever he moves around that means something is bothering him. He must be thinking about our mom when Cyrus used his gift on him. He made an angry groan. Yup, he is upset.

    "Are you alright West?"

    "I keep thinking about mom and how real she looked. By the way, why didn't you ask Cyrus to use his power on you. I mean you were so excited when you ask Jace to his on you."

    "That's because, I didn't want to risk him seeing my dreams or strength and let's just say I already know what my dream is right now."

    "Wait a minute, don't tell me your dream is marrying Cyrus. I hate to bring you down sis but Cyrus is much older then you and by the time you turn 18, he will be 23 going on 24. I mean after all his birthday is next month and he's going to be 19 years old soon."

    "By then I will be a much different person, he won't see me as a little girl, but a grown woman."

    "Whatever you say, Paisley."

    Soon after West said that a loud noise happed outside of our tent. We got out of our beds and head outside to the circle and saw the other sun twins were outside looking up. There was an explosion that had just happen somewhere in the kingdom. You can see the smoke from where we were standing. That could mean only one thing. We were being attack.

    Since Cyrus was the oldest one out of all of us, he was the one who always gave the directions. "Everyone we have to get to the Safe zone area; our protectors will meet us there soon." We all listen to Cyrus orders. My brother and I had no idea where to go, so we just followed Timmy. We arrive to an underground place. This must be the safe zone I thought to myself. It looks like a small military bunker. Cyrus closes the door and locks it from the inside. You can hear people panicking from the kingdom.

    We heard a loud knock on the door. Cyrus did not say a word. Then suddenly we heard Storm voice from the other side of the door. It was him with the other protectors. Cyrus opens the door to let them in. Avery was with them as well. She is here to protect me and West. With everyone in the safe zone and with their protectors, Cyrus decided to speak up. "Listen here everyone, we've just been attack and it's the Night guards who are here. Storm here just told me that he overheard them and why there here." Joey asks Cyrus why was it that they were here.

    "They want the December twins."

    When Cyrus said that everyone looks at us. I could not believe their home was getting attack because of us. I was not going to let no one get hurt because were here. I decided to speak my mind. "I think its best if I go with them, after all they only want one of us. I think it's better if I go and West stays here." West looks at me like I have gone crazy and pulled my arm and told me no. Cyrus agreed with West.

    "That will not be necessary Paisley, you and your brother will stay here. As for the night guards, I am going to get them out of our home. Now you all do not need to join me but there is a good chance that your siblings are here as well. So, whatever you do, don't hesitate when it comes to them. Now I need to know who will be joining me."

    All the sun twins and their protectors roar with excitement. They all were going to join Cyrus and Storm. He wanted my brother and I to stay here with Avery in the safe zone. It was not fair, I wanted to be out there helping them fight. At the same time, I understood. West and I had no fighting experience, we haven't even been given a weapon or armor to wear like the other sun twins.

    Cyrus showed Avery how to lock the door from the inside. After he showed her, him, and everyone else left. They were off to save their kingdom, but we were here being useless. I apologize to Avery about not being able to go with them.

    "There's no need to be sorry. I am glad to be here by both of your sides. It's my duty to make sure the both of you will be safe."

    I thank Avery for being so protective of us and that were glad to have her by our side. She sat with us, waiting for someone to return to the safe zone. After a few minutes that has pass by, there was a knock at the door. We didn't say a word, the second time the knock was a lot louder and harder. The door was yank away and there standing was Iris looking down at us where the door once was. She was alone, with no one by her side.

    This could be an easy fight, there is three of us and one of her. Plus, I don't think she wants to hurt me or West. Avery warns Iris to leave us alone, but Iris just laughs. She then looks at West and at that point I knew she was going to use her gift on West. He starts to scream and begs Avery and me to help him get off the spiders. There were no spiders on him. She was making him see one of his fears. Avery started attacking Iris, while I was trying to calm down West.

    "West it's okay, there's nothing there. She's just playing with your mind."

    "There all over me, I can feel them crawling all over my body!"

    "Just look at me and focus on me. They aren't real."

    West looks at me and together we kept repeating they are not real. He stops shaking and looks all over his body. "They're gone."

    "Good, now let's go help Avery."

    Avery and Iris were at it with each other outside of the safe zone. Every time Iris tried using her whip on Avery, she would use her sword to block it. Iris then whips her whip and aim it at her right leg. She then pulls the whip that way Avery would fall on the ground. I yelled at Iris to look at me. "Leave her alone, it's us that you want."

    I was trying to distract Iris while Avery was trying to get free out of Iris whip. She untied herself from it and got back on her two feet. Iris whips her whip again at Avery. Her whip was so sharp that a little piece of Avery hair fell to the ground. Suddenly Iris used her whip to grab the door handle that was once the safe zone door and whip it towards at Avery.

    It flew so fast that Avery didn't have time to get out of the way. She got hit by the door and fell to the ground. She was not waking up which means she was either dead or knock out. West ran to her to make sure she was still alive. "She's still breathing." Iris step closer to where I was standing.

    "If you really want to know the truth about your parent's death and how they died you will come to Night Kingdom and find out for yourselves."

    Cyrus was yelling at us from the distance asking if we were alright. West and I didn't say anything to let Cyrus know we were okay. Instead, I ask Iris how we can find a way to get to Night Kingdom. "You'll find away. You have 24 hours, or my generous offer will be too late to get the answer that you both want."

    She ran off into the dark. Iris was gone just like that. West and I called Cyrus over. Before he showed up, West and I promise not to say a word about what Iris had just told us. We were going to take her offer and find a way to get to Night Kingdom. Even if that means lying to our new friends.
