The Decembers

Chapter 10

    Jace decided to be the one to tell us that not all of them came from the kingdoms. That some of them came from the villages that is outside of the kingdom's walls. He was going to tell West and I which twins came from were. "Let me start off with who came from Bright Kingdom. Cyrus, Joey, Greyson, and Timmy are all from here. Now for the sun twins that came from the villages are Stella, Alicia, Sarah, and me. As for the rest of the sun twins, that came from Night Kingdom are Mary, Aaron, and David.

    Now as for you December twins. You were both born in Night Kingdom. Soon as he said that. Everything make sense to why all the moon twins and Nora were shocked when we chose the Bright Kingdom over them. Knowing that we were born in that kingdom was a shock to me and West. I thought that we were born here in Bright. I am still glad that we chose Bright over Night Kingdom. Everyone here gave us open arms to me and my brother and for that I was thankful. In the end It does not matter where you were born. It is the person you are and who you become. I need to move on from this topic and start focusing on the food in front of me.

    Everyone started eating. I had me some scramble eggs with waffles. Everything was so good and fresh. This was truly the best breakfast I've receive since before my mother died in that car crash. I miss her so much. She adopted my brother and I when we were 5 months old. If she were alive, I wonder what she would think about all of this. In fact, if she were alive, West and I would have never left Earth.

    As time starts to pass by, I started wondering where Cyrus was. There was still no sign of him. I wonder if he was still going to come. Breakfast is almost over. Why did I care so much about him showing up? He probably already had something to eat this morning and decided to skip breakfast. I ask Joey if she knew where he was this morning.

    "He's probably with Storm and the other protectors." That makes sense to why he is not here. Since we were already on the topic of Cyrus and Storm, I wanted to know the story of them and Iris.

    "By the way, what's the story with Cyrus, Iris and Storm."

    The Sun twins became quite so Joey can tell her story about the January twins to West and me. "Where do I even began. I knew both Iris and Cyrus since we were little kids. Before the whole ritual. Iris was once my best friend, but no one was more of her best friend then her brother Cyrus. They were so close to one another. They truly did love each other and like you December twins they refuse to be separated from each other."

    When Joey said that Iris and Cyrus use to be best friends and loved each other. It blew my mind. Especially from what I saw. They both could not stand each other. I mean all I could think about is what happen between them. Did they really drift that much apart?

    "I remember Iris saying that Cyrus, her and Storm were going to run away before their ritual. She even invited me and my sister Zoey to join them that way we would not have to be separated either. It was very tempting, but we were all so young that I knew we were going to get caught and that is what exactly happen to Iris, Cyrus, and Storm. They were going to steal a ship and leave Bright Kingdom."

    I could not believe it. Storm and the January twins tried running away. "They were going to leave the morning of their ritual. Sadly, there plan did not go the way they wanted to go and was caught by the Bright guards. Later that day of the ritual both Iris and Cyrus were forced to attend. I still remember that night. It was a sad night for Iris. She was the first moon twin to be chosen and the first to be separated from her twin and parents. She was taken away from her home that she grew up in and had to spend a whole month alone with Nora by her side until it was my sister and I ritual."

    Hearing this story made me think about all the pain that Iris went through. I now understand why she is the way she is. After all she was with Nora for a whole month. Who wouldn't have gone crazy spending time with that woman? Joey continues to tell the story. "I even remember the Night guards pulling her away from Cyrus. Cyrus and Iris were holding on to each other hands so tight that the Bright guards had to help separated them as well. She screamed and begged her parents not to let them take her away. They just look at her with sad faces but took Cyrus with them and just walk away from her while she was being taken."

    I could not imagine how hard it must have been for Iris and Cyrus. I mean they were the first twins after all to be separated. Just knowing that they had to be strong for the rest of the other twins but, yet they are probably crying inside having to put up a brave face. What I wanted to know is what was the relationship between Iris and Storm.

    "Is there a thing between Iris and Storm."

    All the sun twins laugh. Joey spoke up. "Rumor has it that when they were little, they use to plan on getting married whenever they got older. I remember when Iris would always talk about him to me and Zoey. She had such a huge crush on him. You can tell Storm had a huge crush on her as well. I think that is another reason why Iris love turn to hatred towards Cyrus. Not only Cyrus got to stay in Bright with their parents, but Storm got to become Cyrus protector."

    Storm and Iris use to have feelings for each other. Maybe there was still a chance between them to have a relationship. When I first saw them talking to each other I knew there was a spark between them. I just didn't know it goes all the way back to when they were little kids. I wonder if any of them still had feelings for each other. West ask if any of the sun and moon twins have protectors of their own.

    Stella told West that only the sun twins had protectors. After she said that I ask her why the moon twins did not have any. "They believe that if you have a protector, that makes you weak. We get make fun of it all the time, whenever we see them. Honestly, we all enjoy having a protector. It's nice to know that someone is willing to protect you. The moon twins see them as just bodyguards, but we see them as family."

    Suddenly I hear Cyrus voice. "Speaking of protectors, you all should start getting ready to skill practice with each of your protector". Soon as I heard and saw Cyrus, I started getting butterflies in my stomach. Trust me I did not like having this feeling. I tried shaking it off. Storm was with him. I hope they did not hear that we were talking about them and Iris.

    All the sun twins got up from the table to go meet their protectors for training. Cyrus put one of his hands on my shoulder and his other one on West shoulder as well. "You two will be going in town with me and Storm." West then ask him what for.

    "Both of you will be getting your own personal protector of course."
