The Decembers

Chapter 11

    My sister and I were finally going to go through Bright Kingdom and check out the place. We got in a carriage, with no roof. That way we can see the whole kingdom without looking through out a window. Cyrus and Storm were going to take us to a building where its specifically for protectors and guards to practice their skills training. He says that is where we will meet our soon to be protector.

    Cyrus says that all ages will be competing to see who our protector will be. Also, that whoever will be our protector will have more of a bigger responsibility since not only they will have one person to protect but two. I honestly could not wait to see who was going to compete to be our protector. Having to pick someone to fight for us was going to be a great honor. Hopefully, Paisley and I can agree on the same person.

    We were off. We had entered more into the middle of the Kingdom. This whole place look like something from a dream. It was like mid evil times combine with a future city. It was hard to explain. The best way to describe it was the past meeting with the future. There where carriages riding through town but there were tall glass buildings that were clear, but also you saw cottages here and there. There were also little markets stack up on top of one and another and elevators were letting you control them to wherever you wanted to go. In the sky there were flying spaceships and Flyting boats with wings on them. I now know why the city is called bright. The sun was giving this city plenty of brightness.

    In the middle of the kingdom was the building that Cyrus was telling us about. You saw guards coming in and out of it. There where giant stairs leading you inside the building. That place itself was huge. The building had a name on it. It read Skill Dome. The carriage stops, and this is where we get off.

    "Alright Decembers twins time to meet the people who will be competing to be your protector." We enter the Skill Dome building and saw that there were many rooms for a lot of things. Storm said that he wanted to give us a tour first and show us all the rooms and what their purpose was for. The first room we enter was a lift weighing room. There were men and women lifting all short of things. They were lifting giant rocks, heavy middle bars, and other heavy items.

    It was basically a gym in my eyes. The next room was a dart room for cross bows and archery. It was like a shooting range but for bows. Watching all these guards shooting arrows was amazing. I have always wanted to learn archery. Storm was telling Paisley and I that all these rooms are what make guards and protectors have all kinds of short of skills.

    "In the third room is where you will find a ring where two people fight each other with their bare hands."

    Storm was not kidding about using their bare hands. We were watching two men in the ring going at it. You can tell they were both using all the strength in their bodies. It was like watching wrestling back home on TV but now in person. They really take their fighting seriously as well. Cyrus tells Storm to show us the back of the building outside that seems to be the Skill Dome personal backyard.

    When we step outside behind the building, Paisley and my eyes widen. We were both amazed with the obstacle course. You saw guards lining up from the very beginning of it waiting to get their turn at the obstacle. I have seen obstacle courses on TV, but never have I ever saw something like this in person. It seems like no guard could get to the end of it.

    At the beginning of the course was basically jumping from one stick to another but the bad thing is these sticks were so skinny that one foot only fits on it and if you fall, you fall in the water. The second part of the course was running in the middle of swinging wreaking balls that were set on fire. As for the third part, you had to go rock climbing but, you had to be very careful with what rock you chose. The reason for that is because, the rocks can have sharp knifes coming out of it and you can get your hand or foot stab.

    I decided to ask Storm if he ever finish the course. "Sadly, I have not my friend, there only has been a few people that has. In fact you know two out of all those few people."

    "Who?"

    "That would be Pierce and your father."

    I smiled when Storm told me and Paisley that our father was one out of the few people who finish the obstacle course. Our father must have been a great fighter. Knowing that he finishes this whole thing is amazing. Just by looking at it gives me the chills. Maybe when I start skill practicing, I can be just like my dad and finish the whole obstacle myself.

    Paisley asks Storm and Cyrus how it works for us to pick a protector. Cyrus told us that there are three rounds. "The first round is the archery round. There will be five people competing to be your protector. Whoever score more points by aiming at the highest numbers on the dart will move on to the next round. Round two will be the ring and the reminding four people. Two of them will go into the ring with one another and fight, whoever taps out does not get to move on to the third round. As for the last round is the obstacle course. The two winners from round two will move on and face the obstacle, but you get to choose from those two who you think did a better job at the obstacle course. I recommend you chose the one who makes it farther on the course."

    All I was thinking was this was a lot just to become our protector. I mean was being a protector that special. In the end, I remember what Stella said about how their more than a protector that they are family. Watching the relationship between Cyrus and Storm is like watching two brothers having full respect for each other. I wish whoever ends up being our protector, we will have a similar relationship like Cyrus and Storm do.

    I ask Cyrus if he knew from the beginning that he wanted Storm to be his protector. "Of course, I knew I wanted him to be my protector. Who would not want their best friend to fight beside them? He became my protector days after my ritual."

    "It's true, I became his protector after he found out he was the sun twin. It was either become a protector or a guard. If I would have decided to become a guard, I would had to wait till I was 18 but you can be 14 to become a protector. The reason for the age difference is because there is less fighting involve for a protector."

    Cyrus wanted us to meet the five people that will be competing to be our protector. He was also telling us that these five were chosen by Pierce to compete and that there were many others who wanted to compete, but only Pierce chooses who he thinks will be the best to protect a sun twin. I am not surprised that Pierce get to pick the top five. After all he is the ruler of this Kingdom.

    Cyrus and Storm walk us back inside the Skill Dome. At 11:00a.m is when round one will began. All the competitors were already in the archery room practicing. Storm wanted to introduce us to all of them first. That way we can get a vibe from all of them and have an idea already of who we might want. All five of the competitors stop doing what they were doing and turned to face us. "December twins I want you to meet Stage, Kane, Marco, Lu and Avery."

    Looking at all of them, you can tell they had a fight in them but there was one that caught me off guard. It was Avery, she stood out from any girl I have seen in my life. She had long curly blonde hair with the brightest green eyes I have ever seen. She was the youngest out of the other competitors. She must be 14 years old with how young she looks and when she smiled, I felt my legs becoming week. I think this might me love at first sight for me.
