The Decembers

Chapter 43

    Everyone is asleep and yet I am here having a hard time. Its pass visitor time and the only people that are awake are some of the relievers. There all in the medicine room setting up trays for us patients tomorrow. Flora left already to go home; her shift was over. Paisley and the others are probably on their way now to Night Kingdom.

    I tried going back to sleep by shutting my eyes. I started counting in my head, thinking that would probably get me tired but it was not doing the trick. Then I hear a whisper of a men. I open my eyes and soon as I did, I saw Ace looking straight down at me. He was standing up smiling. I was shocked to see he was here this late. I ask him what he was doing here.

    "I came to visit you, but I can see your trying to go to sleep, so I'll let you be."

    "No. Don't go. I could use some good company right now. In fact, I was forcing myself to try to get some sleep, but the truth is I am having a hard time. I can't stop thinking about the others and their safety."

    "Alright then I'll stay. I couldn't get much sleep either."

    "You do know it's pass visitor time do you."

    "Yes, I do but not to worry the relievers welcome me anytime of the day. I am the one who retrieve the medicine from the villages and mountains to bring to them. So, visiting you won't hurt the rules."

    I was glad to have Ace come visit me. He was just what I needed right now. Talking to someone will help with the thoughts that are running through my mind. I keep thinking of Avery and Paisley getting hurt by Nora. I cannot stand that woman. I still cannot believe she is the leader of a whole kingdom.

    "You know you and your sister both look a lot like your parents. When I look at you two, I see a lot of both in you and your sister. Your parents where my best friends. I miss them both so much. I wish they have seen how grown you both are. They would be proud of their twins."

    "Can you tell me about my parents and their past please. I need to know more about them. I just feel like I need to know what I came from."

    "Of course, I'll tell you about your parents."

    When Ace said that I was excited and warm inside. Someone was going to finally tell me more about my parents. Who better to tell me about them then their best friend? I just wish Paisley were here with what I was about to hear, but I will tell her everything when she gets back. I might be missing the mission, but she is missing the story of our parents and their life. At least I will have something to brag about as well.

    "I guess I'll start with your father first."

    This was amazing I was going to hear about my father first and how he became a protector. Perhaps with Ace telling me about my father past will also introduce me to my father personality. Maybe the way I act sometimes is the same way he acts as well or maybe I am more like my mother. Either way it does not matter the longest I was like one of them. I am starting to think that I am happy I hurt my leg and ended up in the healer's tent.

    "Your father was born in Night Kingdom. As soon as he turned 14, he signs up to become a protector. Back then there was a group of protectors that protected both Kingdoms and the Villages and the mountain people. There was one person who each represented each of those. Sadly, that group of protectors that we already had was killed in a ship crash. So, our planet needed a new group of protectors."

    That is crazy to know that not only protectors are known for protecting their twin but also the whole planet. I would have love to become a protector myself. What I do not understand is why doesn't Rave have a group of protectors right now. I wanted to ask but did not want to interrupt the story. After all it is about my father.
